It's interesting what this guy's church is doing. I think he brings up a good point. We pick and choose the parts of Jesus we're comfortable with and ignore the parts we're not.

Good point on pick and choose. Easy to say what would Jesus do in terms of helping the poor and kindness. Many people starve bedcause of ways of life that expect handouts and bad governments too. You share. Thing is food will run out there.
Since the Lord tested some people with poverty we do need to do what we can to alleviate it. I think SWK said through someone else the Lord will bless us. Nephi talked about adorning churches more than helping the poor. Great and abomibable church. The Catholic church in present though has done a great deal to alleviat suffering. Some Monks and Priests will be blessed for there effort. Glenn L Pace when he went to Ethiopia meant some of those people. People of many faiths alleviate suffering they will be blessed.
As for what would Jesus do, He is used for any argument people want to make. Jesus would do the school lunch program, summer feeding, Have Uncle Sam pay the power bill, would not punish a sinner, give health care and on and on. Thing is besides violating the third commandment I think that is putting words in his mouth and you thinking something and saying that is what Jesus would do.
True a Christlike trait is kindness and compassion. But to be Christlike you need to do more. Someone told Joseph Fielding McConkie that his nonlds Uncle was the most Christian man he meant and described his charity. McConkie agreed with his charity but said he was not Christlike.
McConkie asked if his Uncle was a man of prayer replied no, was Christ a man of prayer yes, Did he keep the Sabbath holy, No was the reply. Did Christ yes. Was he baptized. No to Uncle, Yes to Christ. If invited to church would he come, Was hundreds of times but would not come. Than McConkie quoted a scripture that talked of doing the will of Christ than said his life did not resemble Christs much but he knew many members that did. That is in "Here we STand"
Neal also gave a good talk on that last conference when he said an LDS person cannot be a follower of Christ without chastity and doing what they want on Sunday, ANd people out of the church that did not hear the gospel yet I think need to hear it. In any case we know better. Major paraphrase on my part in that part of the talk.
What would Jesus do is a popular argument in any thing people choose to do.
