I am glad this has improved your outlook. 8,000 posts later and I finally managed to assist in something positive. I gather we can also agree that whoever wrote the phrase in question probably wasn't an imbecile.
    PLesa excuse the tpyos.

The more I think of it, the more I support people selling the tickets. Both people end up happy. Many people really want to go and don't mind spending some cash to do it. Both parties end up happy. The church hasn't lost anything in the transaction. What am I missing? It looks like a win-win.

You are obviously missing the Mormon people's revulsion of tacky behavior.

Also I believe the law for selling tickets above face value in Utah is that it is legal as long as you are not on the grounds of the venue where the event is taking place. So those selling tickets are free to pay tithing on their legal gotten gain. Win-Win-Win.

What are the chances there are people standing just off temple square selling extra tickets to this thing? For DDD's sake I hope it is high.

Your "likely had more to do with" qualifier was sufficient. It will not be necessary to that you lead with "it is my opinion", nor should you, lest you run afoul of the ABA Silverado Accord on legal opinions.

This is a good idea. While people are waiting in the the long lines, they could sell them Motab concert t-shirts and CD's.

A couple years ago MoTab did a summer tour and stopped in Cincinnati. I thought it would be fun to show up to support the tribe. I began looking and discovered that available tix were around $50/pop, sold through Ticketmaster. The concert was a sellout and tickets were going above face value on StubHub. I don't recall a similar consternation surrounding this event.

Presumably these people entered the lottery because they wanted to attend the concert. When they won the tickets but couldn't attend then they should have given them away to friend who could. Selling them is definitely a tacky way to unload them. Entering into the lottery with the goal of making a profit is even worse. I can see why the church is upset.
What's to explain? It's a bunch of people, most of whom you've never met, who are just as likely to be homicidal maniacs as they are to be normal everyday people, with whom you share the minutiae of your everyday life. It's totally normal, and everyone would understand.

So our ward was asked to provide 5 volunteers to clean the conference center on Saturday after the concert, from 10:00pm to 1:00am. We were told that those people who volunteer will not receive tickets to the concert. I am thinking about signing up and then auctioning off my cleaning resposibilities - there probably is a high demand to clean up after a David Archuletta/MoTab concert. I bet all the choir roadies will be there; I bet they have some great stories to tell.

You have to clean for three hours and you don't get tickets? Good luck on the Tom Sawyer idea.

Yeah, really. The church is really taking this cleaning thing to new levels if they are requiring members to clean the conference center. What's next, ward signups to clean the COB?

Why don't they do the post-concert Priesthood session style? Simply have a closing prayer and then ask everyone to put up chairs and sweep the floors? Hundreds of kids can run around the conference center while 50 or 60 guys stack chairs. A few people can bust out the huge push brooms. And one or two guys can crawl under the stage trying to figure out how the stack of chairs got stuck and wont slide all the way in. One old person can walk around complaining to people about the gum that is stuck on the floor.
