I guess that's what General Conference and the CHOI are for.

No more welfare meetings from what I gather. That will be integrated into ward council. Also, I think the language has been changed for that meeting from weekly, to regularly. Now if I could just get out of PEC."Nobody listens to Turtle."-Turtlesigpic

No more Aaronic Priesthood Council meetings!"Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

Do we have a wiki leak on it yet? I assume that the new scan/leak will have to be a bit more clandestine given the threatened lawsuits over the previous wikileak file.Originally posted by scottie View PostThe new handbook states that a man must have a current temple recommend in order to perform confirmations. a few thoughts...
i wonder if the church will ever admit that families led by homosexual or lesbian parents are blessed in their family life.
I know several homosexual households that feel very blessed in their family relationships, are very close and loving and productive. they do this with or without gospel ordinances. maybe the church is really just saying that you can't have gospel ordinances, but that doesn't have any impact on how blessed your family life is, in my opinion. i wish they would have left out the part about blessings found in family life and just left it at "you can't have the ordinances of the church."Homosexual behavior violates the commandments of God, is contrary to the purposes of human sexuality, distorts loving relationships, and deprives people of the blessings that can be found in family life and in the saving ordinances of the gospel
As Marsupial, i am very glad that the part of distorting loving relationships was left out.
My second thought is as to where the church is going, per indy's question. It seems that the church is trying to get to an official position where they straddle the line between nurture v. nature and officially take the position that "we don't know what makes people gay, all we know is that god has forbade that lifestyle so we enforce his laws of the old testament regarding those members of the church." in essence, playing the good guy who is just doing what he's told by a higher power. kind of like a corporate customer service representative.
i think that the church is almost to that official position, if it is not already there. and, i frankly don't see them moving much further than that, even with youngers leaders.

another thought per Indy's question...
i wonder if the church will ever (1) not officially excommunicate members that are gay but just put them in a status wherein they cannot hold callings/participate in meetings i.e. disfellowshipment; and then (2) permit its clergy to performe same sex civil unions involving members, but just not sealings which would only be available for opposite gender couples of one man and one woman.

Why would the church want to get in the business of performing civil unions?Originally posted by OrangeUte View Postanother thought per Indy's question...

Ps how silly that members must be secretive or have special conncetions to read the Official Handbook of Instructions for their own Church.Fitter. Happier. More Productive.
