Seeing people from the mission field

I may be flying to Florida this Winter to visit my cousin who is finishing his internship at the church ranch. That was in my mission but I didn't serve around there. Apopka and Bumby ward in Orlando was as close as I got. How many of my baptizes, members I knew or investigators will I look up. Probably zero. I may run into some but I won't look them up.

There was a newsletter in the ensign in the 80's about touring the mission and not imposing on people you knew for food and lodging. Randy Bott got a lot of calls by members that said a missionary was not in attire, He said they are not my missionaries anymore. I would not mind doing what I could not do as a missionary, Parasailing, Disneyworld, Movies and other stuff. But I will not look up anyone.

I did see a member at a graduation and some at then Ricks. Ran into a few comps at Ricks. But I have no contact with anyone from the mission. Some people do go take people through the temple and the like but my contact has been nil.

Been with people from Florida but would not want to date them do to gossip about were I may have meant them.

I've kept in touch with some mission companions. I would consider some of them my best friends. I saw a couple of girls from my mission a couple months ago. That was awkward.

I went back to Belgium and Holland with my mom about a year after I got home. We visited a lot of people I'd taught and it was mostly awkward. It was great to see the country again, but the old saying "you can never go home again" held true for me.

My mom had a similar experience. She went back to Germany after about fifteen years and most of the people she had taught and were baptized had either left the church altogether or were deeply inactive. I think she was expecting some heartwarming, deep affirmations of the good that came from her time in the mission field and was mostly disappointed.
