So, I stayed home sick from Church last week. Apparently, I missed a doozie of a talk involving a high councilman who talked about the following:

* "At first people thought that sperm was the whole child, merely implanted in the woman."
* Muslims are all terrorists and worship a false god in their Koran.
* Women shouldn't work.
* Gay men have hit on him, twice.

I hadn't heard about it until this morning. I'm honestly astonished to say that an inside source says that the bishop was overwhelmed with complaints. So, this morning, in a Church first for me, the bishop got up and said, "While last week we had two uplifting and inspiring talks by sisters X & Y, the last speaker, unfortunately, gave a talk that was not uplifting. I want to apologize to you for that, and let you know that it is not our policy to speak ill of other people, groups, or religions in our Church, and the stake president and I sincerely apologize that the remarks were not refuted immediately."

There's hope yet.

Yeah, I suppose it probably is, actually. Mostly, I just think the concept of Homuculi is kinda cool.

It's not offensive, but I'd rather not explain to my 4 y/o what sperm is just yet. And certainly not because some HC talked about it in Church. (Ecclesiastes 3:1)

In my ward, I don't think anybody would have batted an eye at this talk.

The sperm comment is kinda weird, but this is a farming community. Kids here know where babies come from.

I bet 95% of my ward has never met a muslim outside of a convenience store. They'd probably agree with the second statement.

I've heard comment three over our pulpit several times. It hasn't created a fuss. I myself have uttered a modified version of it when teaching elder's quorum.

As for comment 4, well, everybody in our ward knows the the world is full of fags waiting to molest our children. One more warning doesn't hurt. It aint nothing they don't already know, though.

My ward is not politically correct at all. One of the comments that stands out most for me is from a YM's meeting. We were all around a table eating pizza and we were discussing possible career options for the boys. One boy mentioned that he might be interested in becoming a police man.

One of the adult leaders responded with something like: "That's a good field to go into. You get good benefits. There are lot's of places you can work. The economy won't affect you as much as some other careers and you get to beat up all the black people you want.

In all fairness, he did qualify it by afterwards saying he was just kidding.

That's not politically incorrect, that's sociopathic, and had I been present, I would've asked him to step outside so we could discuss it further.

Today one of our high council speakers said he wanted to speak to the youth for a moment, but that we adults could still listen in. I was grateful for him allowing that. Then he taught that in today's world some people say bad and mean good, don't get confused about what is bad and what is good.

It was really good to see that leaders in our stake have such a pulse on the lingo of the youth.
