  • Church news reporter doesn’t know Magic Valley geography.

I didn’t go to the dedication. Some ward members may have. Buildings in Burley Temple district. Lloyd and Estella Oaks moved to Twin where Lloyd operated an ear nose and throat business. Tragically he got tb what at that time there was no cure for. There was a tb hospital 30 to 35 miles to the north in Gooding. It’s now a basque heritage center used for receptions and funerals.

he did not survive so Mother after recovering from mental breakdown got masters degree and taught English. Oaks were raised by relatives on both sides of the family. When mother recovered lived with her where she taught hs English in Vernal.. Moved to Provo Dallins jr. Year of Hs and mother was on Provo city council. Never remarried.

Church news article said Twin Falls was forty miles North of Burley. Grain elevators sage brush and cattle, maybe farms are 40 miles north of Burley. Twin is west of Burley. Though you have to go a couple miles north to get on freeway and south to get to Twin. It was corrected.

I was at the dedication yesterday. And by at the dedication I mean at my ward building, because there were only about 35 people "in person" at the temple.

During the dedication, he talked about a process for Temple dedications that President Nelson used to do. When the list for temple dedications would come out, he would always allow his counselors to look at the list and choose which temples they'd like to dedicate, before making assignments to the Q12. When the Burley temple popped up on the list, President Oaks chose that because of his childhood in Twin (1st and 2nd grade there). He talked about his dad being on the High Council there for 4 years.

He said that he also wanted to come out and dedicate this temple because of how dear this location was to Elder David B. Haight (Oakley, Id), and it would give him the opportunity to see and spend some time with Elder Haight's family. Elder Haight's grandson was in attendance in-person at the temple.

Some interesting stuff....Cassia County used to be in the Box Elder Stake until the late 1800's. Then they became the Cassia Stake. Then in 1919 the Twin Falls Stake and the Burley Stake were created. Elder Haight's father was the first Stake President for the Cassia Stake.

It was a wonderful experience. First temple dedication I've ever participated in. My older granddaughter is 11, and she gets to go do BFTD on the 31st of this month, and will have her first temple experience at our newly dedicated temple. I am grateful for having been serving in YM's for like the last 31 years, because I get to attend that special occasion with her.

Fun fact, she will be getting baptized for TW's mom. We will also have her father and grandfather baptized on the same day. What a treat.

Cn corrected the error. I never made it to the crowded open house. Our wards youth did though. Can’t get in until next month. I liked to check all the 2m and 4c license plates in the Twin Falls temple parking lot.

Now all the workers in that area will go to Burley. Saturday endowment sessions cut back. I would like to do an endowment in one temple in the morning and go to other in same day. Don’t know when that will happen.

i never attended two temples in one day. Could in the Treasure Valley and Eastern Idahio Or have a three day trip when I hit all the temples

Courd a lane will be out of question. Though could hit it and Spokane in same day. Neighbor moved from that area.

You do. Get on the Highway from the second Burley exit. Go north through Paul until the HWY T's and hang a left at that point. 30 miles along the road you come to the town Acey Shaw built. grapevine is a prominent member of Dietrich high society.
