In a ranking of decisions made throughout the church's history from good to bad, this fits somewhere in between the decision to (allegedly) conclusively deal with the Baker-Fancher Party and the decision to enter into negotiations with Mark Hoffman to acquire church historical memorabilia.

My brother made the comment that his wife, who rarely criticizes anything, thought the names were bad. He said "since I've known her, the only thing she's ever said were bad were Hitler, 9/11 and dog diarrhea."Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

“Like it is for many, this was another change that was difficult to want to accept (I still miss the priesthood session of conference to which I was hoping to take my son), but having three girls who will each go through these age groups, I’ve had some really moving impressions that the group names will have a profound impact on them—helping them shape their identity as daughters of God and sense their progression as they prepare for sacred temple covenants. Convenient names, these are not, but I believe the Lord is behind them.”Jesus wants me for a sunbeam.

Which is dumb, as the very reason I hate these names is because I support the young women like I do the young men.Originally posted by falafel View Post

There's three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who's got the same first name as a city; and never go near a lady's got a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, everything else is cream cheese. --Coach Finstock

We should hope and pray that group names, selected and chosen by someone else, do not help shape our daughter's identities. I would sincerely hope that the young women we are responsible for would be made of sterner stuff than to be swayed, one way or another, by the name of a group.Originally posted by Green Monstah View Post

I don't think we need to embrace the titles for the sake of the YW or anything else. I simply think that "Builders", "Messengers", and "Gatherers" are better names than "Beehives", "MIA Maids", and "Laurels". Also better than "12 and 13 year old young women's class", etc.Originally posted by Donuthole View Post

Weeknight activity for youth used to be called "Mutual". It came from an older program called the "Mutual Improvement Association" or MIA. It came from that.Originally posted by falafel View Post
