Church in China

This should spark some good discussion in High Priest Groups. Too bad I'm not a High Priest so I can't participate."Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

That's what you get for abiding by the 12th AofF.

16 years ago when I was in Ukraine, there were no LDS-owned Church buildings of any type except for the mission home -- I never would have thought there would be an LDS Temple there -- pretty cool to see news about the dedication this past week and to think I played a small role in that.
I'm sure as China becomes more Westernized there will eventually be Church members and LDS Temples there as well.

I think the Church could have overwhelming success among the rural Chinese. That which may be asserted without evidence may be dismissed without evidence. -C. Hitchens

Is that sarcastic? I was on a "humanitarian aid worker" visa for part of my proselytizing mission. I think there is plenty of law-bending that takes place when the Church is initially trying to establish itself in new countries.Originally posted by Indy Coug View PostThat's what you get for abiding by the 12th AofF.

Not just any humanitarian aid worker, but a humanitarian aid worker of the "Society of Sofia."Originally posted by CardiacCoug View PostIs that sarcastic? Yes, the Church smuggled its missionaries into certain former soviet republics under the name of a fictitious society.Last edited by SoonerCoug; 08-30-2010, 03:32 PM.That which may be asserted without evidence may be dismissed without evidence. -C. Hitchens

I don't know about that.Originally posted by SoonerCoug View PostI think the Church could have overwhelming success among the rural Chinese.
I know you're going for the less-educated meme, but I imagine the rural folks are much more traditional (not as open to new ideas) and more likely to stick with their roots, whether that is Buddhism or whatever the communists have beat into them.

Hence the term "pagan." When Christianity took hold in the Roman empire, the farmers (latin: "paganus") were the last to get the word and/or comply. Thus the "pagan" religion retained the polytheistic Roman dieties even while Rome adopted monotheistic Catholicism.Originally posted by beefytee View PostI don't know about that.
