I'm not sure it is fair to say he favors a non-Mormon theology for anyone, not even himself. I think John would say that Mormon theology is a concept that has many, many permutations, just one of which is what we would all think of a "traditional" but that even within that there can be significant difference of belief. But I know he considers himself Mormon and that the practice of his faith is completely traditional. What do you mean by "non-Mormon theology?"
