I know I don't. I justify it as time spent with family.

Of course, that means I have to convince my wife to come read her novel in the same room.

I don't justify it. I just do it.

Well, the original question I was responding to was about justifying it. So I was simply outlining my justification.

Mostly I just do it too. While my wife reads in the other room.

I wouldn't purport to know what the other members of my household are doing while I watch football on Sundays.

I try to multitask and read the Ensign while I watch football.

Doesn't count if you are supposed to be in Sunday School or HP at the time.

I wonder how many people justify watching football while they are reading ensign, discussing gospel, doing family history or visiting people in hospitals and care centers they hope hVe the game on? That is me.

                • Is it bad to enter your fantasy draft on Sunday? Someone said that is Lords day they have meetings. In jest. I don,t pay much attention after draft though.

I mentioned in other thread about missionary from Utah of Samoan decent saying sabbath is Jesus,s bday, you don,t celebrate like not celebrating his bday how would you feel yours not celebrate, and you watch the Super Bowl. May be playing Rugby for the U too, that was interesting perspective.

I've got family that is down with the Jesus' birthday thing. Maybe not on Sunday, but Christmas for sure.

My Dad's side of the family always has an extended family Christmas party and rotates who is in charge. A couple of years ago one of my crazy 2nd cousins turned it into a birthday party for Jesus. Complete with party games and a large sheet cake that said "Happy Birthday Jesus" on it.

My favorite party game was the one where everyone sat in a big circle and she handed out about 6-8 balloons randomly. Then she played some Christmas music. When the music stopped, whoever had the balloons raced to see who could be the first to get to the center of the circle and then pop the balloon by sitting on it - while shouting "Happy Birthday Jesus!!!"

Not gonna lie - we've had a lot of family Christmas parties over the years, but this one was by far the most memorable.

I hope someone got a picture of the cake.

                        • Was talked about Stake Conference. One suggestion was not turning on tv or computer except church work, phone except to talk to family members. I wasn't,t perfect at that though. Counselor himself said he struggles with that. Turn foot away from pleasure it takes discipline. Sports and shows not in spirit of sabbath. Many people justify it myself included, watching football or movies time to relax with family. Most people did better of staying in clothes or better dressing. Unless I have somewhere to go church related don,t stay in Sunday Clothes all day. Some things I even heard Ga,s say are up to families to decide. Dress and media I think is one of them.

Daughter didn,t play soccer on Sunday in her league. He was not as good example and thought being missionary by playing on Sunday, Dad in left field with cap so people didn,t see Bishop at game watching son play baseball. Examples in Stake Conference. I still watched games and did non church stuff on computer after conference. I am not poster person of sabbath observance. Rationalization yes, observance no.

Also brought up getting good night sleep on Saturday. Nothing good happens after midnight, no temples open. I heard that one before myself.

I am totally down with the phone one. 90% of Sunday calls from non-family are home teachers wanting to swing by, or sick primary teacher looking for a sub, or Exec Secretary wanting me to say a prayer, etc. I am going to just start leaving an outgoing message saying "In an effort to keep the Sabbath day holy, we will not be taking any calls from non-family members."

The TV or computer ones though? Yeah, I'm not doing those.
