Summary: Apparently Luke Ashworth lost his testimony and left the church as a missionary but came back to BYU and still on the team. CB'ers are melting down over it.

Why is this such a big topic now? Hasn't it been a couple of years since this came out?

Luke is actually a Youth Minister at the Rock Canyon Church up by Timpview. He lost his testimony in the LDS church but he still has a testimony of Jesus Christ.

It's strange to me how people always say "meltdown" when referring to a topic that merely has a lot of posts.

Actually, they have been meeting elsewhere for a few years now. But Reverend Jackson used to live in our neighborhood. Very cool guy and he has a good relationship with the LDS church. I am sure he will be a good influence on Luke.

I mean meltdown to refer to the large number of responses who call the original posting a troll, refuse to believe, or need to twist things to maintain their paradigm. Here's a good example.

Yeah, no kidding. I've know about this for some time. And I don't see what the big deal is. Guy comes home and doesn't believe anymore, chooses to go to another religion, doesn't make a big stink about it, generally (according to all reports I've heard) is a good guy. You can hardly fault a guy for following what he does/doesn't believe. Wish him well, or at worst leave him alone to pursue his own path and worry about pursuing your own (where "you" is a generic term for the unwashed and uneducated CB masses).

That was a mostly compassionate post that acknowledged that there are many reasons for loss of faith, so you can't point to one. I fail to understand how that can be classified as a meltdown.

Further, those reasons you listed are pretty standard answers within the church. And that is completely understandable from a people who believes that God answers prayers truthfully and that he has answered theirs that their faith is the true and correct one.

I understand, but can't quite relate to someone who says, "I feel sorry for the guy when he meets his maker". In order to say that, wouldn't you have to know exactly how the "maker" feels about it.

I can still believe can't I, yet believe things could work out for Luke or anyone else who joins another church. When people express that, I just wonder if they really realize what they are saying or it is just a standard impulsive response by a "true believer".

While popular theory, in reality all evangelical's don't hate mormon's. Also being mormon isn't what is magical at BYU, it is living the higher law which is the honor code. Actually, more magic happens for people associated with BYU than Temple goers because of the magicl higher law.
