      • I'm surprised that Clash of Clans made the list of banned items. It could have been regarded as a metaphor for many things in Mormonism.

Sounds exactly like the type of thing that should be banned. Don't see why you are so surprised.
          Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

It's just a reenactment of the Books of Mormon and Moroni, honest!

So you are supposed to use social media to have missionary moments and Minister, just not actually do those things inside the church. Got it!

I thought we got rid of TapaTalk sent from messages?

                • Our EQ yesterday was watching spent watching videos about how the RS and EQ presidencies are supposed to conduct the new PPIs. The videos were pretty boring and corny, but the EQ Pres introduced them by asking us what we expected the main focus of the new PPIs to be. None of the people sitting around me were willing to take the challenge of raising their hand and saying "Masturbation and porn". What I learned though was that according to the training videos the quarterly PPIs if done with the spirit and correctly will lead to multiple interactions, many being initiated by the interviewee, throughout the quarter. I struggle to see this happening in my ward, but that's probably one of the reasons I'll never be in leadership.

The person that "initiates" any of this stuff is the same dude that lays awake at night wondering what he needs to do to become Bishop material.

And I pray to God that none of those dudes become Bishop of a ward I live in. Gross.

                    • If your not thinking about Jesus while taking the sacrament you are breaking covenants while baking them. Guy that said that is accountant who makes sure Sam gets every last penny, billed someone for tax question they asked in church and needs more air time than anyone else, because what he has to say is more important than what anybody else has to say.

Even brought up High School basketball coaching controversy in Fast and Testimony meeting after altercation between coach and player. Compared coach his fil to Savior Jesus was crucified on false witness learn truth before making choices.

                      • I was going to put this in the Boy Scouts thread, but decided that thread has already been hijacked enough.

Last Sunday, one of my former priests was ordained an Elder. My MP ordination is probably top-5 spiritual experiences for me, so I was excited for this kid. Before hand, the 1C in the Stake Presidency offered a spiel on agency. I couldn't tell if I agreed with him or not.

He explained the covenant of the priesthood, which I thought was appropriate, but he then went on to say that when you take on that covenant, you are no longer a free agent. You become an agent of God, and you are not permitted to sin any longer. He ended with, "We're not free will warriors. Many people misunderstand the doctrine of agency, and that's why I'm clarifying it for you today."

Now, part of me thinks he's just explaining covenants. Covenants come with rights, privileges, and punishments/remedies. I think he was simply stating that the punishment/remedy for sin after receiving the MP is more severe than before, but his final statements bothered me for some reason. Free will still exists post-ordination; it's just that there's a withdrawal of the spirit and an "amen" to the power and authority of the unrighteous priesthood holder. Something about the way he presented the principle doesn't sit right with me, and I can't really put a finger on what it is.
Jesus wants me for a sunbeam.

                        • Lol at leaders like this who are so strongly entrenched in their own interpretations that they feel the need to reach out and pontificate with them, regardless of whether it's done in a helpful, loving way or not. "not permitted to sin anymore". O RLY??? The appropriate response is "k dude. Thanks for the input-I'm sure you meant well. Anyway..."

It's not even an "Amen." There are prerequisites for that to occur, including "undertaking to cover our sins." Just because you sin, even as a MP holder, doesn't mean you've broken the covenant and are kicked out of the kingdom. Unless, of course, he's denying MP holders can obtain forgiveness through the Atonement. Seems kind of a satanic view to me.

                                D&C 93

30 All truth is independent in that sphere in which God has placed it, to act for itself, as all intelligence also; otherwise there is no existence.

31 Behold, here is the agency of man, and here is the condemnation of man; because that which was from the beginning is plainly manifest unto them, and they receive not the light.

32 And every man whose spirit receiveth not the light is under condemnation.

Not sure why anyone wants to add to that. We're agents, free to act within our sphere. If we lose our freedom to act, we don't exist. Maybe he's talking about that our job is to align our will with God's.

I think this is the end goal:

                                Helaman 10

4 Blessed art thou, Nephi, for those things which thou hast done; for I have beheld how thou hast with unwearyingness declared the word, which I have given unto thee, unto this people. And thou hast not feared them, and hast not sought thine own life, but hast sought my will, and to keep my commandments.

5 And now, because thou hast done this with such unwearyingness, behold, I will bless thee forever; and I will make thee mighty in word and in deed, in faith and in works; yea, even that all things shall be done unto thee according to thy word, for thou shalt not ask that which is contrary to my will.

6 Behold, thou art Nephi, and I am God. Behold, I declare it unto thee in the presence of mine angels, that ye shall have power over this people, and shall smite the earth with famine, and with pestilence, and destruction, according to the wickedness of this people.

7 Behold, I give unto you power, that whatsoever ye shall seal on earth shall be sealed in heaven; and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven; and thus shall ye have power among this people.
