  • Just learned that missionaries these days really are more valiant. I walked into the men's room 20 feet behind the Elders. One of them went to use the facilities, while the other just stood in the corner and waited. In my rule-breaking day, we just waited outside.

I'm not entirely sure what their procedure is when the are at their apartment. Maybe I'll ask next time they are over for dinner.

He talked about how he has given thousands of interviews over the years as a bishop at BYU and later in his home ward, as a SP and as a MP. He went on to tell about how in any interview, one of the purposes is to "scrub out the corners of their soul." He explained how he key to doing this is that when someone confesses something, to go back through every year of their life since the first time the problem happened and explore that. "What happened in the 7th grade. Tell me about that. Why happened in the 8th grade? Tell me about that." Do that all the way through the present day. This is how you scrub out the corners of their soul.

He went on to tell a story about when he was a bishop at BYU. A woman had stopped attending church after previously being very active. He called her in for an interview, during which she insisted that everything was fine and that she had recently become very busy with school and work and that had impacted her Sunday attendance. He looked at her, and suddenly felt inspired to tell her that she had become pregnant and had obtained an abortion. She then confessed that he was right.

He also told a story about a man to whom he wouldn't give a TR, because, in the TR interview, the man expressed that he didn't really like his EQP.

      Very uplifting stuff.

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

Can't have any of the Elders going #3 in the stalls.

How very scientological of him. The only thing missing is making the confesser hold the cans of an Emeter.

            • Today in Sac Mtg we had a couple of speakers talk about the difference between the Gospel and the Church. And that our goal is to become converted to Christ, not to become converted to the Church.

Between speakers the missionaries did a musical number, a little leprechaun of a guy from Ireland sang I am a Child of God while his companion accompanied him on the piano.

Both speakers and the missionaries all did a very good job. It was a good meeting.

Sounds like a beautiful arrangement that absolutely no one on CS would ever object to.

I'm pretty sure any can-holding leads to extra scrubbing.

Kids need someone to turn to in a time of need, not someone like this guy. My oldest has been telling about how many missionaries from his mission no longer attend and I've seen how my youngest has been handled by church leadership with his problems. I'm afraid the church is going to lose a lot of this current generation if they continue with this mind set. I was reading CB Friday and disgusted by how many feel their needs to be church punishment when people fall or slip up. It just seems wrong to me.

Ha. I'm sure that's just what any bishop/stake president/mission president is just dying to hear. You're not spending enough time in interviews! That guy must be a real champion when it came to Tithing Settlement season.

                        • We had the sister missionaries over for dinner for the first time. Due to a busy Saturday, we hadn't realized that they hadn't confirmed with us until Sunday morning. Didn't see them at church, so we tried to get a hold of them by phone. After not receiving a reply to my wife's text for more than an hour, I attempted an actual phone call. The call rang three times before giving me a computerized message that the caller was unavailable and to try again later. Click.

They sent a text to my wife at 4:30 p.m. letting us know that they were still planning on joining us and any time worked great. And that one of them was allergic to avocados.

                          So weird.

Ugggg. I really dislike like these kind of leaders. Remind me to tell you a story about my Stake President at SUU. over zealous SP going over past transgressions....
( FYI I most likely wrote that incoherently and will be properly corrected forthwith. Thanks)
