When I read the title for this thread, I was wondering if they were fundraising for such procedures, much like the Scouts do with a dinner and auction.

That's one church fund raiser I could get behind. Maybe the scouts could start putting up state flags along with the U. S. flag every holiday. The U.S. Flag would be so they could go to scout camp and the state flag could be so their moms could get a boob job.

These are the types of responses I was looking for. I didn't expect this thread to degenerate into a discussion about meals.

"And you people wonder why you've had extermination orders issued against you." - landpoke

However, I could dig it if Sister Swenson would bring over an unopened box of Cheerios and an unopened jug of milk.
When Super had our boy a couple months ago, her VT hung a huge pan of frozen lasagna from our front door in a plastic bag. Taco Bell would have been more appreciated.

omgosh, r u kidding me? I can't believe they would give dinners to pple having boob jobs, no matter how much it hurts. It's cosmetic surgery, for heaven's sake, not a hyst-er-ect-omy (sp) or mastectomy. Quite frankly, if I did get one, I wouldn't want pple in my ward to know I had one....the RS presidency must be friends with the person......when our second was born, I didn't get dinners (and Tick wasn't a cooking machine yet) because my baby was healthy and the delivery was healthy.....they only gave to those who had 'hard' deliveries or complications.....that's probably why I frown on service because our family will give give give but when we are in need, nada, because we are 'strong enough' to handle it ourselves.....BS, we had issues too.

I have never heard of a ward denying any woman who just had a baby dinners because it was a healthy delivery. That seems really unusual. I know some women decline the dinners because they have other help, but I think most women and RS love to do some sort of service for new moms, regardless of how difficult or easy the delivery. I'm sorry that happened to you.

I would totally bring in dinner for a woman who had a breast lift/implants/whatever. For all I know it could be medically necessary. And if not medically necessary, perhaps mentally necessary. I know a lot of vain women get boob jobs, but I also believe a lot of women get so stretched out from breast feeding/pregnancies, etc., that a boob job may be necessary for her to feel OK about herself. Also, some women are way too well endowed and that can cause a lot of back pain as well, and being too large can be psychologically devastating too. Not to mention mastectomies from breast cancer needing reconstructive surgery, etc. But I'd happily take a meal over to a vain woman who just wanted to be a bit larger and firmer, because sometimes I think the vain women just need good friends and someone to build them up on the inside.

I also don't understand using the EQ as a moving truck loading/unloading service. We just hire it done. It's not that expensive, and it's much less grief for everyone. Replacing the EQ moving service with a "ward relocation fund" would be much more practical. I would gladly donate 20 bucks to this sort of thing. I dare say this would be much more popular and revolutionary than even the perpetual education fund.
When I had our third, I received three dinners: two from my Evangelical neighbors and one from my visiting teacher. It's not just a Mormon custom.

There is more to the custom than just giving someone food with no effort, it is a loving gesture. Personally, I loved getting meals after I had my babies. I am not a picky eater and I was always very appreciative of their kindness. Sure you can do takeout, but nothing says love like a homecooked meal.
What's to explain? It's a bunch of people, most of whom you've never met, who are just as likely to be homicidal maniacs as they are to be normal everyday people, with whom you share the minutiae of your everyday life. It's totally normal, and everyone would understand.

I didn't have any meals brought in to me. I fear people scratching their butts then commencing food preparation. As for the Stoffers Lasagna, that too, got tossed... How the hell were we to know how long it had been hanging in a Walmart bag on our door?

3 days before Little Dude got here, I went freezer meal crazy. I had meals to last us a week or two. It's all about preparation, ya'll.

When I get my Mommy Makeover (tummy tuck with boob job), I don't plan on asking for dinners, but if I had a friend undergoing such a procedure, I would totally bring her dinner.

90% of what I do around our house (though it may not be a lot) begins with a good butt scratch.

So you don't go and eat at other people's houses?

Only the ones we know well enough to have figured out how often they butt scratch and whether they wash up after. That takes some time.
