  • Same Old Design, But With A New Twist!

The Church unveiled a new meetinghouse in Farmington today that obtained an LEED silver certification. The building comes equipped with solar panels, tank-less water heaters, motion-sensitive light switches, xeriscaping, and (my personal favorite) specifically marked stalls for hybrid and other energy-efficient vehicles, among other energy saving features.

Overall, I'm happy to see the Church jumping on this bandwagon. Hopefully, it will inspire others to make greater personal commitments to energy saving. My bet is that it won't be long before you can get utility credits for unused converted power that gets reverted back to the grid in Utah.

Surely the constitution is hanging by a thread now, what with Church leaders acting like a bunch of liberals. WWLS? (What would Lifi say?)

Did the government force the church to do this?

That xeriscaping is horrible. light gray/white rocks? Ugh.

Also, I see some grass in this picture.

Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

I sure hope the bishops remembered to put windows on the doors.

We're progressive, remember? Soon there won't be any more cub scouts.

If the church starts saving money this way, perhaps what we are asked to pay in tithes will decrease...

I think my correlated background prevetns me from understanding that comment. It is such a burden.

my ward will be moving into that church next month. The energy efficient vehicle only parking ended up getting nixed. For months we've been hearing about all the fancy new things that are in the church, there's apparently a lot more than the things you've listed. I'll dig up this thread once I actually go through it if anyone wants to hear more about it.

I do so hope that you recover from this travesty of a tragedy.

Presiding Bishopric (H. David Burton) is not the same thing as a ward bishop.

Maybe they're planning ahead, and believe the recession will get worse and tithes will plunge.
