    The Immaculate Conception

I think the virgin birth is one of the most fascinating issues in Christianity. Academics have argued that the virgin birth was the Christians' way of explaining the fact that Jesus was born out of wedlock. I lean toward this explanation. I think the Son of God thing is figurative. Please don't lecture me about how he needed an immortal father to be able to overcome death, etc. I've heard the Sunday School arguments, and I think they're fine, although less likely. I'm just not convinced that the virgin birth is important.

There was a couple in my high school that supposedly got pregnant this way (no intercourse and clothed), so maybe virgin births are more common than we think.

. I must be misunderstanding your post.

The Immaculate Conception refers to Mary's birth, coming into the world without "original sin." It has nothing to do with the Virgin Birth doctrine (having babies without sexual intercourse).

Your final paragraph is especially confusing.

My mistake. Virgin birth. Carry on.

The Lancet documented a virgin birth once. I believe a bullet shot out of a gun, pierced through an onlookers testicle, picking up some sperm, then lodged in the abdomen of a young lady in the vicinity, more specifically, her fallopian tube, impregnating her.

No mention was made of how the bullet was dug out of her abdomen without disturbing the newly fertilized egg.

I've had nothing but contempt for medical journals ever since reading this account.

Well there you have it! Sperm are tough.

You need a mulligan. Delete this and start over, pretending to have studied some other topic. Or at least re-edit the intro paragraph.

How does one delete an entire thread without intervention from one with authority to act in Lebowski's name?

I never realized that it was published.

Did a woman become pregnant from being struck by a bullet that had passed through the scrotum of a Civil War soldier?

                    That's hilarious.

Next can we discuss the impeccability of Christ? You know, how he should have worked out more so it would be easier to carry the cross...

I must have misread the thread title, I thought this was about the Immaculate Reception. All I know is that Franco Harris made a hell of a catch that day.

What's wrong with questioning the virgin birth? I think the story is a little outlandish. Much worse than translating with your head in a hat.
