Revelation and Inspiration

The thread about the earthquake in Chile and the inspiration the sister received to warn the missionaries got me thinking. Does God send inspiration with pinpoint accuracy to an individual or does he send it to the whole world and those that are able to receive it, do. I'd like to think that God's light is everywhere, all of time. When you need it, you can tune in, so to speak.

Animals are often reported to behave strangely just before impending natural disasters. Maybe, because animals can't sin, they are in tune with regional broadcasts from the Cosmic Original Gangster.

D&C 58:26 For behold, it is not meet that I should command in all things; for he that is compelled in all things, the same is a slothful and not a wise servant; wherefore he receiveth no reward.
27 Verily I say, men should be anxiously engaged in a good cause, and do many things of their own free will, and bring to pass much righteousness;
28 For the power is in them, wherein they are agents unto themselves. And inasmuch as men do good they shall in nowise lose their reward.

It seems to follow that God would not uniformly raise a voice of warning to all. He is not a respector of persons, however has conditionally said IF you draw near unto me, THEN I will draw near unto you.

I think it's a safe assumption that the Chilean mission president and his wife had prayed and prayed and prayed for the safety of their missionaries, as did the missionaries' families back home, as did the many Chilean church members, as did many prayers in the temples. And when the time was right, a voice of warning was given through the appropriate channel. It was not a general voice of warning given to every Chilean, but to a person with stewardship who actively and sincerely sought guidance.

I don't believe any general principles can be gleaned from who gets warnings or promptings about various things. Some people get promptings about where to find their car keys. Other very righteous people don't get a prompting that would save them or family members from awful things. There is no rhyme or reason to it that I have ever been able to see.

If you are right that would explain why it is revealed to several different men, simultaneously, that they are to marry a particular woman (who happens to be beautiful).
