Testimony with song

I think I seen that in a student ward. But not in family wards. Who sings there testimony. BRM said written sermon except for childrens and tv and radio are offensive to the Spirit. So don't go up to podium with talk in the especially morbid especially for Morbid. Someone dies to talk about significance of Sacrament, not to gossip, someone killed in hunting accident and on and on. Those are offensive.

You are not supposed to give a talk when you give your testimony either. Brings me to another point. People that express there testimony in Song. That is not your testimony. One of my professers at then Ricks said that Afterglow and other stuff that is supposed to make you feel the spirit just gives you a rush. Not the Spirit though there are good artists.

So some musically challenged person singing a Janice Krapp Perry Song is not singing there testimony. My beef with those types of testimonies in song is it is not your testimony it is someone elses expressions they put to poetry. NOt your own words at all. A testimony is to be how you know the gospel is true, not a wirter or singer how they know it is true so you are stealing there lyrics for a so called testimony.

As a very strong rule of thumb, singing for a or as part of a testimony is not appropriate. However, one of the more memorable testimonies I've seen was when a mother who had just lost her son talked about the peace she found in singing a particular Primary song her son loved.

It may not have been a testimony, but it was one of the most moving moments I've ever had inside a chapel.

A guy in one of my BYU wards sang part of the 4 Non Blondes song, "What's Going On" as part of his testimony.

Unfortunately, I was not spiritually moved. I did giggle a little, though.
