  • Elton John: Jesus was gay

JESUS was GAY - according to the gospel of SIR ELTON JOHN. The singer makes his controversial claim about the Lord in a new US interview that will enrage America's bible belt.

Elton, 62, declares as he pours out his heart to a magazine: "I think Jesus was a compassionate, super-intelligent gay man who understood human problems."

He adds: "Jesus wanted us to be loving and forgiving. I don't know what makes people so cruel. Try being a gay woman in the Middle East - you're as good as dead."

All the best bath houses in Europe have granted him tenure. He currently holds the George Michael Chair for Advanced Claims of Gayness Without Evidence at the "Sauna le 9" in Cannes...

As long as he didn't act on it. Also I guess this settles the question of whether he was married or not.
"Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

Elton's theory is not bad. He is probably reading too much of contemporary social standards into his interpretation of the Bible, but who doesn't do that? Jesus surrounded himself with men with whom he was tender and intimate (not sexually, as far as any of us know). He shunned traditional displays of masculinity. Any survey of depictions of Christ through the ages will reveal a slew of effeminate looking men. Artists have been picking up on this vibe for ages. Even if Christ was married, he sure spent a lot of time at work... surrounded by dudes.

Elton John's revision to the Jesus narrative wouldn't rank in the top 100 of "least likely to be true" so there's no particular reason not to believe it.

In that time did Historians pay any attention to who was gay and who wasn't. For instance, those 2,000 years in the future will be able to read about Elton John and have indications of his sexual preference.

Clearly, the answer is yes to the latter. Since there's no evidence outside the Bible that Jesus existed, and the Bible doesn't speak of his sexual preference, there's no way to know either way whether Jesus was considered gay by his authors. It seems unlikely, but not as unlikely as other aspects of his story.

I love how woot is always the "religious oddsmaker" on the board.

So he was more likely to be gay than to walk on water?

                      Thanks for clearing that up.

So would that be like Sunday morning Bisopric and PEC meetings?

Perhaps I have to change some of the things I have thought.

                            1) I thought there were some references to Jesus by historians of that time. I have heard many claims that he was just a teacher or preacher and stories about the miracles were made up, but I haven't heard that the only evidence of him is in the Bible. We would have to discount all of those who wrote in the Bible of him because they were religious people and could have conspired to make up a story. Historians and scientists would never do such a thing.

                            2) It is my understanding that the Old Testament is not big on gay relationships. If Jesus was indeed gay, I would think these religious folks would mention being gay was another part of doing away with the old law and bringing in the new one.

I suggest you not use this standard in your professional life. Or in any other aspect of your life either, for that matter.
