If you think it'll help them help your daughter, include positions too. Anything for your kids, right?"Wuap's "problem" is that he is smart & principled & committed to a moral course of action. His actions are supposed to reflect his ethical code.

Yet you lack the guts to tell them that.Originally posted by Tick's wife View PostI just think it is none of their business."Discipleship is not a spectator sport. 1- Let he who is filthy be filthy still. If you live in a clean environment, it'll be easier to have the spirit. The Holy Ghost can't dwell in unclean tabernacles. It's like a metaphor, everyone has to "take out the trash" sometimes.
2- It'll give you clearer vision, greater clarity. It'll keep you safer.
3- Feed the body and the soul. Your body is a temple and it needs nourishment.
4- When you get drunk you give away part of your free agency. You have impaired judgement. You may make decisions you normally wouldn't. Can be affect your spirituality in a negative way.
5- Sinning. Willful rebellion/sinning can drive the Spirit of the Lord away. Is spiritually damaging. Causes spiritual regression."I'm going to go back to CUF now, where the censorship is less, the average IQ is higher, and we don't have to deal with so much of this nonsense. Goodbye." - SoonerCoug

Tick, in our area we lose a ton of kids simply because they fall through the cracks after HS. We have a singles branch and everyone kind of assumes that if they disappear after graduation then they've gone there. But in reality a ton of them stay in town and stop going. Our stake has made different efforts over the years to try and figure out how to help with the transition from church life as a minor to church life as an adult. My guess is that your stake is attempting a similar effort. I suppose you could consider it intrusive but you could also see it as an effort to meet the needs of local young adults.

Its not too intrusive. They probably aren't worried about your daughter and may even know what she is going to do already, but they cant just ask the rudderless kids to show up; if so, they wouldn't come and it would deeply offend some of them. So, to try to be a good influence and provide good direction they interview all the seniors. I guess I can see a lot ways a SP could be too intrusive, but here it looks like he is just trying to do right by kids for whom he has stewardship.
You asked for opinions. In my opinion, you are being too sensitive here and you should pick your battles more carefully.PLesa excuse the tpyos.

Not sure I understand the outrage here. The Stake Presidency seems to be taking an interest in the plans of the graduating seniors. Many in this age group lack direction and end up drifting for some time. They would like to help make sure that doesn't happen to the kids under their stewardship.
It's not like they are trying to convince your daughter to take up prostitution or forcing her into a labor camp. My guess is that they want the best for your daughter and want to let her know that she has a home and support in the stake. Seems pretty innocuous. As for your Stake President being in it for the numbers, I have never heard of any number that needs to be shipped off to Salt Lake reporting on how many graduating kids they have interviewed.

Tick and wife, it's my opinion that your past history with the stake president is tainting your view on this particular issue. If you don't want to do it, politely decline and get on with your lives -- this should not be a source for simmering resentment.

I would love if my SP met individually with my kids, with or without me present. However, I greatly respect my SP and have 100% confidence whatever advice, or if necessary chastisement (I might have to clue him in on the whole broken TV deal) would be appropriate.
It is not mine, nor anyone on this board right to tell you what you should or shouldn't be offended about. You know your situation fully, each of us only knows it from the outside. I personally believe that prayers are answered and parents are entitled and can receive guidance on behalf of their children. My advice pray about it and then do whatever you feel is in your daughter's best interest.
Thanks for sharing something so personal with a board full of relative strangers. It is obvious you both want what is best for your daughter, I believe Heavenly Father does as well and will let you know what that is.
Sorry for the bishop sermon, I will go back to my usual unfunny jokes no one cares enough to even give me a pity lol for once in awhile.
PS Wuap I enjoyed that story the first time I read it. I'm glad you posted it again, that is a great experience to share.Last edited by Art Vandelay; 01-27-2010, 10:32 PM.

I hear what everyone is saying. And I do appreciate the remarks.
We do have issues with our current Stake Presidency. And I will agree that that is part of what is making it worse.
What I can't figure out though...is what they are going to cover in this interview that they didn't cover in her Ecclesiastical Endorsement interview for BYU. You know...the interview that you had with her for 30 minutes 3 months ago.
There are kids that are rudderless. But I like the idea of holding a Fireside...like the one they held for BYU/BYU-I/BYU-H/LDSBC last year.
And to Eddie Jones...there is a reason that I answered the phone and not my wife. She would have told the HC to go eff himself.
So don't pretend to know that she wouldn't have the sack to tell him to his face. I am the one that wouldn't, not her.
I will return and report.
I just hate my Stake, and this is more fuel.
