There are many medical situations/emergencies that list "sense of impending doom" which means there is a physiologic mechanism or pathway innate to everyone that can bring these feelings. I don't know why this is transiently randomly triggered in some people (combined with the paralysis) and not others.

I don't doubt you felt what you felt, but whenever I hear these stories I always wonder why someone or something would bother making you feel that way. Would would it have to gain?

It was a terrible experience: I was conscious; couldn't move; my eyes were open; there was this buzzing/humming in my ears; and a very strong sense of an evil presence in the room. After a while, I was able to shake off the paralysis, but the sense of an evil presence continued as I made myself go back to sleep.

I've experienced it 4 times in my life - all early 20's. The most remarkable was on my mission as well, and the strangest thing is that it happened to my companion and I at the same time.

I awoke from a deep sleep to a sense of evil. I was paralyzed - such as I couldn't move at all. With all the strength I could muster, I raised my right hand to the square and invoking the priesthood power and the name of Jesus Christ, the "evil paralysis" left immediately. From waking to the paralysis to it leaving, was about 1 minute.

I yelled at my companion, he was awake, and confirmed my experience, and said that he had actually seen evil spirits in a speeding cascading stream at the foot of his bed coming towards him. He said he was scared to death, and couldn't move.

For what it's worth, I believe you.

There's a thread or two on this site about sleep paralysis and our collective experiences with the phenomenon. In my opinion it's neurological. Each time it's happened to me It has felt as real as can be for a few minutes and then as the minutes pass I began to realize it was mostly a dream or hallucination (apparently one is technically awake). I can see why people interpret it as something else because it feels very real but as with a nightmare, the passing of a few minutes brings one back to reality.

I had a dream once that I was standing in a Pizza Hut on Claiborne Ave in New Orleans, right by the Crescent City Connector. In walks in one of my Boy Scouts from Church, robs the place, sees me, and then shoots me in the head, and I died. Everything went dark and blank and I was terrified.

          Does that count?

C'mon Wuap, every kid in America knows that if you die in your dream you die in real life! Because I heard that so often as a kid I think I was a teenager before I actually had the thought cross my mind "wait, how could anyone know that, they'd be dead?" If you want some humor, mention to a group of adults that you died in your dream and odds are you'll get at least one that will say "wait, I thought if you died in your dream..."

All novelty is but oblivion. I died one sleepless night on the banks of the Nili in Diospolis Magna.

What if you experience the sensation of an evil presence but are fully capable of speech and movement? Is that sleep paralysis?

Never experienced it. I saw Paranormal Activity, though, and thought it was kind of good until the ending, which majorly sucked.

There's three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who's got the same first name as a city; and never go near a lady's got a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, everything else is cream cheese. --Coach Finstock

By the way, for those of you who think that these episodes are some sort of Satan related/demonic possession thing I submit to you that Satan really sucks at it if this is the case. I win every time in the end without even trying. Plus they keep going after the same people around here, you'd think they'd branch out and try some new blood. They go after poor MarkGrace every time he sleeps on his back.

I don't think sleep paralysis has anything to do with Satan.

No doubt, I just figured there are enough newbies about to warrant clarifying my perspective.
