When you say child do you mean Primary age? I don't recall hearing much about building my testimony until high school seminary.

For the purposes of the poll, child = 17 and under.

What level of pressure? Unreasonable or reasonable level?

If you mean unreasonable, I can see someone voting no. Else I can't see anyone voting no. Of course we pressure people--youth, converts, etc. into gaining testimony.

In that case, consider my no vote changed to a yes.

Any pressure..... a simple yes or no will suffice.

I wanted to make the question as simple as possible because I'm guessing that people have different definitions of what is reasonable and/or unreasonable.

I'd say that the "pressure" to gain a testimony had more to do with encouraging us to serve missions, and preparing by reading the BofM, praying twice a day, etc. In priests quorum and seminary, I was made to feel as though it was my choice, but my instructors and local leaders being strongly in favor of the mission.

Dare I say that this poll could have considerably different results if split by gender.

Rosebud, do you feel that you have been made a victim of LDS culture and practices?

Well.... I'm guessing that those who believe the church is true are more likely to believe that pressure to gain a testimony is positive because it leads people to make the right decision, while those who believe the church isn't true are more likely to believe that any pressure is negative because it leads people to make the wrong decision. There may be some who are capable of being impartial, but in my experience such people are few and far between.

I'm also guessing -- based on the mixed results so far -- that people here felt like the question was too loaded to answer it simply. Maybe I'm wrong.

Yes.... depending on how we define LDS culture and practices.... but only partially because of my gender. I guess I could make the poll a bit more sophisticated. Split it up by gender and add specific ways in which people may have felt pressured, etc. Hmmmm.......

I voted no but I guess you could change it to yes since you quantified pressure as any pressure. With that anyone who was asked to pray to know the Church, scriptures, etc is true has been pressured. No? I interpreted pressure as anything beyond I thought reasonable or detrimental.
