Validity? How could it be non-valid? Is this an objective standard? Of course it's valid. How much validity is there in someone saying they are disappointed in their called destination given that they have never been on a mission at all and maybe never been to the area to which they were called? The entire point is that their subjective point of view changes based on their experience.
    PLesa excuse the tpyos.

I know of one. He went to the southern part of Texas. He hated the people then and still hates them now. He's an active member and employed by CES.
"Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

Well, it's a saying. Not very valid since we use it to express enthusiasm about the subject at hand. We can imagine things, but the frame of reference, as you say, is narrow.

There is plenty of validity in being disappointed in a destination. By definition, the missionary wanted to go somewhere else and was called somewhere unappealing to them for whatever reason.

in the case of a missionary saying post mission that they couldn't imagine a better place to serve a mission, again, I would agree, but only because they lack any other frame of reference that would allow them to imagine it. maybe what they mean to say is that they enjoyed their mission very much. That statement has merit.

I'm grateful for going on my mission where I did. If I had that kind of lack of conversion success in some God-forsaken third world hellhole and picked up parasites and other afflictions that would affect for the rest of my life, I'd really be pissed.

This statement is much more defensible.
