    Too Much Information

Ever feel that someone in your ward has just given you too much personal information? I'm talking about stuff they tell you when they're bearing their testimony, or things they share with you when they're teaching a lesson, and they want to emphasize a point with a personal story. Or even when it is a non-spiritual setting, and they give you information that makes your personal world collide with your ward world.

Last night at the Relief Society dinner, it was the latter. Our ex-RS president sat next to me and was in an uncommonly chatty mood. TMI happened when she insisted on telling me why her ring tone for her husband (the ex-Bishop) was Love In An Elevator.

That's a great Aerosmith tune. The production on it is insane too. That chorus sounds better than stuff produced 20 years later with more advanced equipment.

A member of my bishopric paraphrased Chuck Klosterman to me: "Every married man who is still a credible guy listens to Van Halen when his wife isn't around."

This bishopric counselor deserves to be sustained (and by a natural harmonic on the 12th fret!)
We all trust our own unorthodoxies.

Young, married girls who announce from the pulpit that they have lots and lots and lots of sex is TMI.

After you get TMI, do you ask for more so you can assess just how deep into sin the subject is?

I'm very good at interrupting in mid-sentence, "...that is ok Sister Bawlinhereyesout I don't need all the details".

The only time I ever ask probing questions is when a youth is being purposely vague. "ummm. my girlfriend and I kinda...ummm... let...umm...things go a little too far". I would follow up with "did you have sex?". If they answer yes or even no, then tell me it was something less substantial, I would want to know how long ago and how many occurrences. I want basics not specifics.

There was a lesson in EQ a couple of years ago about communication within spousal relationships. For whatever reason, the teacher started referencing the importance of communication in all aspects of marriage, including "love making." He said "love making" around 4 or 5 times during the lesson.

It doesn't technically qualify as TMI, but it was at least "TM" at a very minimum.

Other than singing along to Bad Company or Roberta Flack has anyone here ever actually used the term "making love" before? To the best of my memory I have never once used that expression.

It would be too much information to talk about it.

Yeah, that's pretty weird. I prefer the term "making whoopee".

If you aren't careful how you make whoopee, it might turn out like this and scare you from making whoopee ever agian.

I think he was talking about making whoopee, not making whoopee whoopee
"Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf
