    Primary chaos

Serious chaos. There was no time to take control of the situation after sacrament meeting broke, so there were dozens of kids trying to sit where they used to sit. We have had nine new teachers called in the last two weeks, so between that and the kids moving up, everything was crazy until twenty minutes later and we finally got everybody to sit down.

The rest of the day was equally crazy, with classroom swapping and new classes being split and blahblahblah. All kinds of good stuff. Somehow, because I'm the secretary everybody thinks I know what's going on and when stuff goes wrong, it's my fault.

Nice to know the Church is true everywhere. Here in VA we had similar chaos. Difference being our ward is sparse so sometimes people just don't show. First Sunday in '09 and all the new Sunbeams get sent back to nursery for the last hour because their teacher is a no show, and no one is available to fill in. But there are almost 20 in nursery (I know, go figure) and only two women at the wheel. Primary is rough.

You know how President Hinckley said he doesn't worry about those who pray? The same can be said for men who are self-aware enough to know when there's a life to be lived outside of the world of video games. - Anonymous

Well, even here in Utah where the Saints claim that they are so blessed to walk near the living prophets, we still have people just not show up. We have one couple that maybe comes to teach their class maybe 50% of the time, just AWOL the other 50%. Their class has started asking if they did something wrong or if their teachers don't like them anymore. It breaks my heart. The primary president doesn't want to talk to them about it because she is afraid she "will hurt their feelings." I offered to do the dirty job, but was shushed.

The clincher: the bishopric won't release them because "they only come to church when they have a Sunday calling." This upsets me. Put them in charge of ringing the bell or something.

My kids were promoted today. No longer sunbeams.

When the heck did we do away with all the cool Star A/B, Blazers, Merry Miss stuff? The Primary president looked at me like I was up in the night.

Conversely, how cool would it be to simply refer to all stages of Church advancement as "CTR?"

Instead of Elders Quorum, it would be CTR 22-35.
        First Presidency is CTR 80-85.

I TOTALLY agree with the stupid CTR/Valiant crap. Moreover, MOST of junior primary are CTR, whereas CTR 8 is actually part of SENIOR primary, which I didn't know. So I incidentally scheduled the CTR 8 class and another senior primary class in the same room at the same time. Blerg. Who has these brilliant ideas?

That would be fantastic. I think you should write SLC about it.

I subbed for the Sunbeam teacher yesterday. This was my daughter's first day in Primary. The two other girls in her class had on pink dresses with lace and puffed sleeves. She had on a brand new ivory-colored corduroy dress with a brown button but no puffed sleeves. She broke down crying because her dress wasn't as pretty as the other girls. I can't believe I am dealing with this crap at 3.
What's to explain? It's a bunch of people, most of whom you've never met, who are just as likely to be homicidal maniacs as they are to be normal everyday people, with whom you share the minutiae of your everyday life. It's totally normal, and everyone would understand.

My current ward dismisses from sacrament meeting row by row. At first I was a little resistant to the idea, but I've got to tell you, having attended a ward where they don't go row by row and seeing the absolute chaos that ensued, it made a lot of sense.

I might even go as far as to say that I now prefer it. Then again, I get to leave early with the teachers and librarians.

Our Prim pres had all of the kids come to the front of the primary room for a rousing rendition of "Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes". Then she did a sorting hat ceremony for all of the kids to assign them to their "house" with their "house head" (teacher).

The kids loved it. I was shocked that she would allow something that was fairly hip. I'm pretty sure the idea came from her first counselor, but the fact that she allowed something so "secular" was the equivalent of the coupe of the century.

Incidentally, 'twas a sad day for the Mrs., as it marked our youngest (and likely our last) little girl's graduation from nursery into primary.

Yesterday was the first day of our youngest being able to go to nursery. I was happy with that.

I think in my ward thi sapproach would result in an overload of persons sitting in the rows first dismissed.

So the other gender is pretty much a mess right from the beginning. I was wondering if it only started after marriage.

                              Ouch.

Our oldest daughter was taught by the age of 4 by my mother-in-law the difference between a diamond, ruby, emerald and sapphire. She also learned the 4 Cs of a diamond: color, cut, clarity and carat. I take credit in teaching her that those 4 Cs lead to the 5th C: cost.

As for clothing at that age, she would put on any dress sho could find and then go play in a mudhole.
