My inlaws loved to go to Shoney's for the fish dinner. Must be a senior citizen thing.

He's an old time Salt Laker, so of course he goes to Dee's. You can put it in the bank that he goes to Little America. There's also a good chance he's been to the Cowboy Grub and to the Marie Calender's on Foothill Blvd.

Ha! Super used to work at the Cowboy Grub. There is a bulls head hanging on the wall named after her grandfather. Not too man thing more olds school SLC than the Grub. I used to go sit at the counter and pester her while she was working and have eaten many sandwiches brought from there to my apartment after her shift. I may have to go there next time I am in SLC for old times sake.

I've eaten at the Grub many times. They serve up some great comfort food.

The Grub's food is salty enough to make you retain water for about a week!

Me and my buddy moved in "temporarily" with his grandfather, a retired dentist (who fixed John McCain's teeth in San Antonio after he returned from POW camp), full bird colonel and WWII vet, and accomplished jazz pianist. Oh the stories I could tell of living with this octogenarian. On occasion he treated us to meals and these were among his favorites. As well as Chuck-a-rama on 4th S and the giant Chinese Buffet down around 35th.

Wow! Memory lane! That Marie Callender's is gone now (I think it is a Red Robin) but in high school my buddies and I used to leave during 2nd period and have a sweet roll there. It was such a memory for us - and that place was such a Highland High School hangout - that when we had our 30th reunion we gathered there for lunch and stayed at our table until about 5:00 (we had hardly seen each other in the intervening 30 years). (We left a big tip.)

When I was in college the Cowboy Grub was new and quite the Greek hangout. (Kappa Kappa Gammas in particular seemed to like the place.) I'll never forget being there in our naive innocence when one of our group asked the waitress what prairie oysters are. The answer shocked and embarrassed everyone.

I've been looking for a good Monte Cristo! Coppercreek Pub and Grub serves one, but they overcook it. Riverside CC in Provo has a Monte Cristo that will make your knees buckle.
