    Can God's plans fail?

Yesterday's TPJS lesson was on the final dispensation of the fullness of times, etc. etc.

The discussion turned to what we can do to help things along, and a question occurred to me. Okay, so it's a series of questions.

Is this at all dependent on us? Is this final dispensation's closing act something we can control?

If it is, doesn't that mean there's a chance it can fail?

And if there is a chance, doesn't that mean Satan is working hard at getting us individually to fall, the better to cause God's plan for these days to fail?

And if it's not dependent on us at all, then why focus on it at all?

    Just some musings.

I see some of God's plans as similar to the Mormon Battalion and Rocktober. The true purpose may be a mystery, the important thing is whether or not we are on board.

This reminds me of the story of the arrogant obnoxious American who goes to the Louvre to see the Mona Lisa and it thoroughly disappointed.

He goes up to a museum attendant and starts to complain about how small the painting is and how it isn't very impressive.

The attendant simply replies, "The Mona Lisa wasn't on trial, you were!"

No I don't think that God's plan can fail...Only you can.

If perchance a specific "plan" could fail, God has placed so many redundant systems in place as to render the probability of all plans failing at zero.

So to bottom line it, anything He sets in motion is in no way dependent on us.

Why would you even bother worshiping an incompetent God like that?

              Um, that's another good question.

Is it incompetence to rely on others? We do it all the time.

Does anyone really know what His "plan" really is?

Well... He's told us what it is, in a nutshell. And a few details. Is He misleading us?

                    We're not God.
No, no we're not. But we're supposed to be aiming for that eventual state.

What's to fail? Really the final dispensation is just the final preparation perod before Christ returns. Perhaps we can have some impact on how quickly it arrives, but Christ does not need us to do anything to enable him to return. Like DU says, the question is just whether we are on board or not.

Well, it's pretty broad and there's certainly no qualifiers on how many men's immortality and eternal lives are required to declare success. By my reckoning, Christ's Atonement has already sealed the deal.

Perhaps we can have some impact, but ultimately, our actions have nothing to do with it.

Here's a follow-up: what if every single one of God's children that ever lived turned away from Him and none returned to His presence. Is that a failure?

Only if he failed to provide a Redeemer that atoned for our sins.

That's kind of my point. The deification doctrine really screws up one's image of God because you put all these human weaknesses on him.
