I talked about this very thing in church yesterday.

Yes....I think we do, but a lot of it depends on our reaction to and how we handle the different difficulties that each of us must face.

I think it's both. I've always liked the quote, "Experience is what you get when you don't get what you want."

I think they are the same thing. I believe that a good 95% of the blessings were receive are the natural consequences of following good counsel. I don't see the scriptures as setting forth a formula for acquiring and accumulating magic sprinkles that equal a reward bestowed in the next life. They are a guide for happiness now, and for becoming the kind of person you want to be hereafter. I don't think there is much supernatural about it. Rarely anyway.

My mother made a great point in class yesterday when we were talking about how the fall of the Nephites and Jaredites can be tied to failing to recognize the source of their blessings. She pointed out that an ungrateful person is an unhappy and miserable person and that over a large group of people consequences of unhappiness and misery flow naturally (setting up classes and distinctions, having one's heart set on gain, secret combinations, etc.). Just one example, but I view almost everything in the scriptures as practical first though there are obviously exceptions.

What would you do with that information? Are you really going to make the checker tell you to go get in the regular line. :-)

Yes. Which is why I try to facilitate as much growth in as many people as possible by causing them to experience adversity.
