I always love a good homemade milkshake. There's something awesome about the frost on the outside of a glass after you hand mix a thick chocolate shake.
Tonight I made a round of root beer freezes for the gang and I mixed in a little bit of chocolate syrup. It turned out excellent and really brought out the root beer flavor.
Another delicious treat. Take some wax or parchment paper and roll it into a cone, you may need to use some scotch tape. Take a smallish crepe, drizzle some Nutella on the inside, roll it into the paper and shape it like a big huge ice cream cone. Put in a big scoop of thick vanilla custard, you may have to get this at a place like Ritter's or Culver's, or a high quality French Vanilla and top off with a little more nutella.
Moving away from homemade ice cream treats, I went to the DQ a couple of weeks ago. The DQ isn't fancy and their food is atrocious, I will always associate the bbq sandwich with Matt Dilan eating one in the Outsiders as he met up with Pony and Johnny right before the church burned down, but it's a solid ice cream chain. Their Girl Scout Cookie Blizzards are great, especially the Tagalong.
This brings me to Cold Stone Creamery. I used to love it, but now I don't. There is something about paying four or five dollars for mediocre ice cream that leaves me unsatisfied. Has the quality gotten worse? I'm not sure. But my attitude has certainly changed toward the place. I really don't mind splurging for a good ice cream desert, especially at Ben and Jerry's or Ohio's own Graeter's. But it will be a cold day in hell when I again darken the door of a Cold Stone.
