  • I/O tops Esquire mag's list of best Fast Food

Five Guys was way down the list.

The interesting thing about this list is that Esquire asked well-established chefs for their votes.

This is a pretty impressive list of Yea votes (Thomas freaking Keller!), the only dark stain being Joey Fatone from N*Sync, Drive-ins, and Dives:

    Chefs Who Love In-N-Out Burger
Nate Appleman, A16 and SPQR, San Francisco
Joey Campanaro, The Little Owl, New York City
    Paul Bartolotta, Bartolotta, Las Vegas
Alton Brown, host of Iron Chef America
Guy Fieri, host of Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives
Tyler Florence, host of Tyler's Ultimate
David Myers, Sona and Comme Ca, Los Angeles
Thomas Keller, The French Laundry, Yountville, California and Per Se, New York City
Charlie Palmer, Aureole, New York City and Charlie Palmer Steak, multiple locations

Has anyone been to a Wow Bao in Chicago? Just yesterday I was wondering where I could score a Vietnamese banh bao. I could go for some tasty, steamy buns right now.

Does anyone have any thoughts re: I/O v. 5Guys? That would be an interesting discussion.

Slight edge to In-n-Out. It's cheaper, fresher, and lighter.

It's not any fresher. Five Guys uses the same fresh, cook to order model. It's not any cheaper either considering you get the same amount of food in two In-N-Out double doubles and just one Five Guys cheeseburger. It is lighter though so you have that. But when I want a cheeseburger, I am not thinking "I just want a light burger." I want something substantial that takes two hands to manipulate. I can finish a double double in two bites.

Really they're close for me. In-N-Out has the nostalgia from my youth. But I never cared for In-N-Out fries. Five Guys fries are awesome. Though In-N-Out shakes help, it's not enough to put In-N-Out over Five Guys for me.

I'm still typing responses then holding the backspace key to delete each of them. I'll let you know when I finally settle on a suitable response.

There is no more discussion. Your opinions don't matter. Thomas Keller has already weighed in on this topic.

Chipotle, Burger King, Wendy's, KFC, Popeye's, DQ, Jack in the Box...certainly some impressive company.
So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

TK did not weigh in on those, if you notice. His silence speaks volumes. Besides, the category is fast food. What else were you expecting?

A fair question, but I guess I wasn't expecting all the biggest national fast food chains. I thought it would be more interesting local or maybe regional greasy spoon type stuff.

This is pre-fitday. I haven't eaten at Five Guys in months.

Sadly I never have. Maybe I'll go out of my way to try it. Out of my way like 500 miles.
