I love this show. That is all.

The main host reminds me of a younger, less masculine version of John Clayton, if that's possible. But I like the show, too.

me too. I like the reviewing of kitchen equipment part of it, nobody else really does that except Alton Brown a bit.

It is my favorite PBS cooking show. I like the companion show, Country something. IT has the same format and the same people, but is done before a live audience in a "Farm House" kitchen.

I may be small, but I'm slow.

We decided a couple of months ago that the recipes out of Cook's Illustrated and Cook's Country (publications of America's Test Kitchen) were so well crafted and delicious that there was no need to really look elsewhere for basic home-cooked meals. We've yet to make something that wasn't fabulous.

We also have realized that we're missing an important piece of kitchen gear, an enameled dutch oven. So, we bought a year's access to the cooksillustrated.com site and have really enjoyed it. Last night, we watched an episode of Cook's Country wherein they made fried chicken and some beef stew. Both of them used a dutch oven. We decided to look into giving one to each other for Christmas, so I set about reading which of the dutch ovens ATK rated the best. The rated 1-3 stars each cooking fries, stew, and rice.

The two clear winners, receiving 3 stars in each of the three tests are:

          and #2

[ame="http://www.amazon.com/Le-Creuset-Signature-Enameled-Cast-Iron/dp/B0076NOI7A/ref=sr_1_1?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1352590799&sr=1-1&keywords=Le+Creuset+7+1%2F4-Quart+Round+French+Oven"]Amazon.com: Le Creuset Signature Enameled Cast-Iron 7-1/4-Quart Round French Oven, Cherry: Home & Kitchen@@AMEPARAM@@http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41cnEYb-GxL.@@AMEPARAM@@41cnEYb-GxL[/ame]

So, with each of those coming in well out of our price range, I hoped that they had a best buy. They did.

#3, also scored 3 stars in all tests. It is only #3 because of its size and because they others make a more evenly golden fond on the bottom. Otherwise, it is just as good. I started looking online and it was much cheaper, but then I found it for $39.88 + $5 S&H at samsclub.com

          http://www.samsclub.com/sams/tramont...prod8140022.ip

If you've always wanted a good dutch oven, Cook's Illustrated says that "Crafted from enameled cast iron, the oven produced glossy, deeply flavored Belgian beef stew; fluffy white rice; and crispy French fries in the test kitchen."

I ordered it last night. They also have orange flame and cobalt blue.

Everyone needs a le creuset. They are very versatile. Even wal mart sells knockoffs now that are very good. Costco, as well.

Speaking of Le Crueset, they are opening an outlet store at the new Outlets at Traverse Mountain in Lehi.

When we were newlyweds, we didn't have the kitchen or the money or the know how to make good use of one. You will some day. Until then, keep lugging it around. You'll grow into it.

My wife just got the 13 quart. She says it is her Christmas present which is a win for me. Also, I can cook an entire chicken in it.

About the only thing I like about cold weather is that it justifies making soups and stews. I'm especially excited to use this thing (once it comes) to make the following:

                          1. French onion soup. The real stuff with red wine and onions that have cooked so long that they're basically glucose.

                          2. Chuck roast (for you, cowboy). I want to brown a beautiful bone-in chuck roast in it then put it in the oven with some onions, carrots, and Dale's Seasoning.

                          3. Beef stew. I want to cut a chuck roast into chunks, brown it, remove it, and then deglaze with some red wine. Ummmmmmm.

                          4. Italian sausage and lentil stew. Brown the sausage, deglaze with chicken stock.

                          5. Filipino adobo baked the old-fashioned way.

Check out that bad boy. You might could get a whole lechón in there. (not really)

I braise my Chuck roast in beer with carrots, celery, onions, and herbs. The gravy made with the residual liquid is killer. It is my kids favorite meal.
