So at Saturdays fat stock sale for first time someone bought in chickens to sale. Sold them 3 at a time and got paid over $100.00. However you can only bring one animal to fair to sale so low money. Someone paid that money and let exhibitor eat them. If I paid I would not give them back to exhibitor but eat them myself.
someone got paid to exhibit chicken at fair

Grape, can you explain this in a bit more detail? It sounds really interesting, but I'm still not quite sure what happened...Originally posted by grapevine View PostSo at Saturdays fat stock sale for first time someone bought in chickens to sale. So a man brought in three chickens to sell at the fair, but the rules only allow people to bring in one animal for sale? So after selling the three chickens and being told about the rules, the buyer returned two of the chickens and let the seller eat them on the spot?

A 4-h or ffa member can only sell one animal at fat stock sale. Most sale pigs, sheep a beef steer and now goats and dairy heifers. You can only sale one of them. can't sale a beef and pig. Since chickens are small animals they let them sale them by the flock so he had three diffrent chickens sold them as flock.
Interesting when buyer bought them he paid the price and let exhibitor keep the chickens. thi ng is you will make much more on mammal than you will birds too. I don't think the 4-h ffa members could sell the chickens and pigs.

This is just speculation, but maybe the buyer was related to the seller. It isn't uncommon for a family member to bid high on a sickly looking animal, to boost a young farmer's confidence in his/her animal husbandry skills. The family member then might leave the chickens to the exhibitor because they had become like pets. Lots of 4Hers and FFA come to love their animals, and don't want to seem them eaten. I had a cousin like this, who was involved in 4H. Sold a steer for top dollar at fat auction. He loved that steer, but then they ate it, and he was very sad. He had taught it tricks, and then it got eaten.Originally posted by grapevine View PostA 4-h or ffa member can only sell one animal at fat stock sale.
