  • Thai Mango Dessert

In another thread, Finderson and ER mentioned a Southern Utah restaurant that serves this. It's a great dessert and I gave it a homemade shot last night. I was happy with the results. If you can find the Thai sweet rice in your area, this is a fun desert to try. Very easy.

Most Thai restaurants have this on the menu. We love mangos, so we make this a lot, especially when champagne mangos are in season. Easy to make and it tastes great.

We have tried several recipes and most turn out fine. I am a little partial to the recipes that use coconut cream.

That looks good. The brown sugar is an interesting touch--I'll have to try this one. What the heck is coconut flavor? Did you use it? I made the one off of thaitable, and it was really good and easy too, but it just used coconut milk without the extra flavoring.

By sweet rice, do you just mean jasmine rice? If so, I can't imagine anyone can't find that. I'm in Cedar City, hardly a chef's dream, and they have it at our Walmart.

I like the sesame seeds on top.

Yeah, we have made it that way. It is still good, but the best (and authentic) way is to use Thai sticky rice (also called Thai sweet rice or glutinous rice). The best way to cook Thai sticky rice is with a bamboo steamer and cheese cloth, but I suppose you could try it on the stove top.

Or you could get a Zojirushi. They have a custom setting for sweet rice.

If you head to Vegas for the bowl game, stop by an Asian grocery and they'll have Thai sweet rice.

Or for $10 I can get this:
                http://www.amazon.com/Sticky-rice-st.../dp/B00019MRRE

Leaving me $300 to donate to the building up of CUF on earth.

So I have no idea where to find Thai sticky rice. Our local Asian market is only 200 miles away.

You could also try Zhao's in Provo if that's more convenient.

I was trying to save you some gas money.

And don't give me that poverty shtick, Doc. Nobody here is going to buy it.

I didn't mean to sound sarcastic. That really is my closest Asian market. We do head up north more often, however. Any good ones in SLC?

Hey, Oliver, when you are done picking a pocket or two maybe you can go home and warm your hands over your nice stainless steel Viking stove.
                              Fitter. Happier. More Productive.
