  • Pace Bars

About 10-15 years ago I had a buddy take me to a place that was like a storefront where you could purchase individual pace bars (I believe it was in Bountiful - incidentally near Northern Exposure).

This weekend while I was driving back from Idaho, I stopped by Paces Dairy Ann in bountiful to see if that was the place...it didn't appear that it was as the Pace Bar I got was no different than the one you can get now at Maceys.

    So my question is...

Does this place from my memory actually exist where you can walk into a store (not a diner) and buy an individual pace bar? Or, was that just a thing of the past?

Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

    What is a pace bar?
Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

They are just popsicles, but really flavorful and a home-grown Utah product. Kind of like how you can't get an Idaho Spud out on the east coast.

Err...what? You want to get a Pace bar but couldn't find them at Pace's? They should be there.

Haven't had one of those in ages. Or a Rainbow!
So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

Well, I got one there...it just wasn't the set up that I had remembered...which probably means I'm just not remembering it correctly.

Was the pace bar not as good as you remember? Sounds like you're looking for that magic pace bar that was as good as you remember it, not the crap they sell to the masses at Macey's.

Pretty much. I haven't lived in Utah for 10+ years...this place has changed so much.

The grocery store variety are a pretty close representation of the original. But they wrap in cellophane. The originals were put in a small paper wrapper, and the paper always stuck to the frozen, sticky treat. That it the biggest difference to me.

Your memory is a bit off. Northern Exposure is a few miles away on Beck St. You may have been thinking of Kitty Pappas Steak House just up the street, which from the outside has a stripclub look to it.

there is a great schism in the pace family between the pace's dairy ann side and the pace bar side.

I don't know about any "schism", but I do know that one brother runs the pace bar manufacturing and the other runs the dairy ann. I know the pace bar brother, he is a good guy. I think that pace bars are great!!

DnF, I am pretty sure there is no Northern Exposure in Bountiful. Bountiful residents would go berserk if there were.

MG, how does a rainbow compare to the shave ice on the islands? I would think that they are pretty much the same, but maybe on the they use sweetened condensed milk more offshore?

The consistency of a Rainbow is much more Slush Puppie than it is shave ice.
