    Wegman's

In Katy Lied's Accept No Substitutes Wegman's came up. For those who don't know, now you do:

Not an exaggeration to say that this grocery chain is the single most compelling reason to live somewhere in the Mid-Atlantic U.S. This is not an ad, it’s just how I FEEL.

This is why I can and often do spend hours in this place.

It's just about the only place we shopped for food in Pennsylvania.

Doesn't sound much different than the Harmon's in Draper and Farmington.

Alec Baldwin did commercials for Harmon's?

HEB is just about the only store I know that comes close.

I buy meat and produce only from HEB even though I have a Kroger and Walmart almost next to my house.

Wow. I love grocery stores like that.

Yeah, Harmons is the closest thing we have here.

My ribbing of Shaka aside, Harmon's is a nice store. I visited the City Creek one right after it opened.

With my job I go into a lot of the grocery chains and I've always been very impressed with every Wegman's I've ever been in. Publix and HEB are a couple of other chains that do a good job. Jungle Jim's in Cincinnati is perhaps the most interesting grocery store I've seen. On the other side of the coin I've never been in a Save a Lot that wasn't just a dirty mess.

HEB is fantastic, too. When I was camped out in Houston and tired of going out to heavy meals every night, I would head over to HEB and get something there. Amazing.

SoCal has Gelson's, where you can give your shopping list to one of the employees and they will help you pick out your items. It isn't as expansive as the aforementioned, but still quite good.

Walmart's meat and produce are terrible. I like their pharmacists though...

Ever been to a Stew Leonard's store (started in CT, but now have several stores across NYC suburbs). I lived near the original store, and then had them as a case in MBA school 20 years ago. A unique shopping experience...

Jungle Jim's is great. That place is huge.

Is that the supermarket that the Country Bear's and Chuck E. Cheese hang out at?
