  • The OFFICIAL Salmon Recipe Thread

I started an OFFICIAL Salmon Recipe Thread because I did not want to limit the recipe options to only those that utilize a smoker, nor inhibit the collective CUF salmon connoisseurs to participate. That being said, this thread is a great start to some great advice and recipes that JL and FMcoug has shared. I have only enjoyed salmon a few times (mostly smothered in brown sugar, etc.). However, with a renewed interest in maintaining a healthier, cleaner diet, I am venturing outside of my culinary comfort zone. Share often and freely but most importantly...add PICS!

I do it easy. Rub in a little bit of olive oil, sprinkle a bunch of Old Bay or blackening rub and grill.

Me too. Seems like the best way to eat Salmon is as natural as possible. Raw and natural is even better.

[Edit: I mean the salmon is raw and natural]

I do tin foil dinners with salmon when camping. Put down a bed of precooked rice, then put a good filet on that, surround with broccoli or asparagus, throw in some salt, pepper, lemon slice and sliced ginger. Double wrap the foil, let cook but not too long. Laugh at the silly people with ground beef, undercooked carrots and crunchy potatoes in their tin foil.
Awesomeness now has a name. Let me introduce myself.

That settles it. I'm having AYCE sushi for lunch.

I'd take toro first over any nigiri if they have it, but I like sake just as much as hamachi or maguro.

The taste of sake is much more robust to aging. So, fresh hamachi is absolutely superior, but if its more than a day old, sake beats everything else. Sadly, here in Utah that usually means that sake is the best they've got. Unless you're crazy about ikura like I am-- that stuff can be way old and still taste yummy.

Salmon can't be beat here in terms of freshness. All the best sushi places have great salmon, and usually a handful of varieties.

Dang it, you could have posted all this in that other thread.

Now I am dying for some sushi.

I know it's both lazy and unadventurous, but we enjoy the ready-to-cook Costco salmon fillets. They put a dollop of herbal butter seasoning on them in a disposable aluminum pan. Quick, easy, and tasty.
