  • NY Times Reviews Guy Fieri's Restaurant

    http://www.nytimes.com/2012/11/14/di...pagewanted=all

    This was pretty entertaining.
So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

Ouch. He's better suited to open a food truck....and I mean that in a good way.
"Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

It's a tourist trap in Times Square, what do you expect?

I haven't read a lot--maybe any?--NYT restaurant reviews, but does the NYT reviewer typically return 10+ times to sample the entirety of a reportedly bad menu? Because there's no way he/she ordered all of that one visit.

Maybe being a restaurant critic isn't as fun as it sounds.
At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

Probably not +10 times, but with a lot of reviews they've gone multiple times. The writers at the Seattle Times usually hit a place 2-3 times for a review.

Also, they often go with a group. If you go with a group of 6, you can sample quite a few dishes.

A guy that makes a living extolling the delicious virtues of diner food opens a crappy restaurant.

              Fitter. Happier. More Productive.

As far as Food Network start restaurants, I've been to Lupa (Mario Batali) and Bar Americain (Bobby Flay) and both were actually pretty good. I really liked Lupa. The food was very good, but the atmosphere was great. It was a small restaurant that was really out the of way in Manhattan (not an easy thing to do). Bar Americain was good, but I wasn't paying for that meal so it might have tasted better than it actually was.

I enjoyed Johnny Garlic's quite a bit when I was up in Livermore. Sure, I had garlic seeping from every pore of my body after indulging in the garlic parmesan fries, but it's not like I smelled all that great to begin with.

Are there multiple garlic concept places? I thought the Stinking Rose cornered that market.

Could be. Johnny Garlic's is Fieri's, however.

I was less than impressed by Bobby Flay's Mesa Grill, however. It was okay, I guess, but not on par with the really good eateries. Big "meh" from me.

That was one of the worst reviews I've ever seen. Wow.
Awesomeness now has a name. Let me introduce myself.
