  • I got a Big Green Egg from my wife for our 25th anniversary...

IOkay, I actually bought it and said to her, 'Honey, look what you got me for our 25th anniversary!'

So far - one firing - I've made really good pizza and really good bread. Not where one would normally start with a 'grill' but the ceramic body of the grill retains and radiates heat much like a bread oven. The pizza dough will have to be tweaked a bit (more gluten, thinner crust), but overall, the first run was pretty successful.

What should be next? I'm thinking I'm going to set it up in smoker mode and try out a pork butt...

Sweet! Just be careful not to do any really high heat cooks on it until you have some lower temp cooks under your belt. This will allow the gasket adhesive to cure and have less chance of ruining it. Also, when doing a high heat cook, remember to "burp" the lid before fully opening it. The backdarft can be nasty.

BTW, nakedwhiz.com is a great BGE site with a ton of info.

Nice buy, congrats on your anniversary and present.

Are you sure you want to do a pork butt first? That was my nemesis last week; took much longer to cook than I anticipated. Are you sure you don't want to start with something a little more predictable on the cook time? Either way, post pics and summaries, please.

Green eggs go best with ham.

On a box, with a fox, in a house, with a mouse, on a train, etc. They're really good.

But not with a goat or in a boat. That's disgusting.
