  • Eat more potatoes

It's a wreck for the potato farmers this year. We are selling 50lb of spuds for $5.00 to $6.00. The tithing dollars out of eastern Idaho may be down this year.

RC, we had baked potatoes on Sunday evening. I hope that helped.

What are prices in a good year? (Yes I'm from Idaho and yes I grew up on a farm, but our soil wasn't good for harvesting potatoes so we didn't).

In a good year a box of potatoes will go somewhere in the mid teens and in a great year as high as $20 dollars a box.

To many acres were planted and we had a great growing year. Potato prices are not subsidized. We sell about 1.3 million pounds of spuds a day and at a $2.00 to $3.00 loss on every hundred weight run it's a big hit for the farmers. On good years the farmer gets a new pickup, the wives get new Suburbans and everybody's happy. I'm afraid they will be driving their old "outfits" this year.

Be careful, people. Look what the potato did to those poor Irish.

The potaotes did a great thing for the Irish -- it's that there weren't enough potatoes.

I am happy to report that we had potatoes with our tri-tip tonight. So RC Vikings and cowboy can both thank me for doing my part.

Corn on the cob from Harward's too ... think they are shutting their stands down soon. Boo.
