Inquiring minds wonder if Seattle is a cabernet, merlot or pinot noir man?

If so, does he go the expensive route, or simply choose an economical brand that suits his tastes?
Does he prefer a dry or sweet wine?
"Guitar groups are on their way out, Mr Epstein."
Upon rejecting the Beatles, Dick Rowe told Brian Epstein of the January 1, 1962 audition for Decca, which signed Brian Poole and the Tremeloes instead.
Do you ever enjoy a less expensive bottle? Or do you hang on price?
Do you like the oak taste and smell added to the others aromas?

expensive is not necessary. Not too cheap. 15-30 bucks is fine. 10 or less on sale. It's a buyer's market for wine now.
I love Cal and Washington wines. Argentina.
I don't add anything.
The post did not intend to imply you added anything. Being uninitiated, the post merely noted what commentators describe as an oakey taste for some Cabernets. So the query revolved upon which flavors or hints of flavors you preferred in your cabernet. one might suppose the oak flavor comes from aging in oak barrels, but perhaps you have a different insight.

I don't pay much attention to those descriptions before I buy; I just ask myself if I like it. I may then review the descrpiptions you reference and see if I agree.
The wine ratings are exactly like the ESPN college basketball men's recruit ratings. The spread seems to be in a 79-98 range.

Do you try to stay in the eighties in the ratings?
How do you know if you might like it before you buy if you haven't read the ratings or the descriptions? Are you saying, you never buy unless you have tasted?

There is an interesting Freakonomics podcast that touches on this.
When you take a sip of Cabernet, what are you tasting? The grape? The tannins? The oak barrel? Or is it the price?
Believe it or not, the most dominant flavor may be the dollars. Thanks to the work of some intrepid and wine-obsessed researchers (yes, there is an American Association of Wine Economists), we have a new understanding of the relationship between wine, critics, and consumers.
One of these researchers is Robin Goldstein, whose paper detailing more than 6,000 blind tastings reaches the conclusion that “individuals who are unaware of the price do not derive more enjoyment from more expensive wine.”
Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.
Dig your own grave, and save!
"The only one of us who is so significant that Jeff owes us something simply because he decided to grace us with his presence is falafel." -- All-American
"I know that you are one of the cool and 'edgy' BYU fans" -- Wally
These words are consistently spoken by persons not caught up in the thrill of conspicuous consumption. My most trusted friend espouses this belief. It seems reasonable.

My wife buys our wines on Amazon. She follows the customer and professional reviews and makes an intuitive decision. Occasionally we find a brand we really like and she repeatedly orders it, but we're always trying something new. I never pay attention to price because I know she's more thrifty than I am and we have exactly the same philosophy about wine and very similar tastes. A couple of summers ago she got into kind of a reisling kick. I'm very glad that is over.
We have our own two person "wine club"; we started reading the labels but haven't done that for a while.
I forgot to mention that we like bubbly sometimes in the summer.

Sounds like a good bonding activity creating new intimacy for a couple.
