  • Whey in on this protein question

so not so hot on the whole ubiquitous soy protein option. Have been looking for a fast quality protein option. I buy some Trader Joe's Whey protein mix - don't mind it. The chocolate is fairly drinkable.

But what are the pros and cons of whey protein?

And what are your awesomest protein recommendations?

First, look at the calorie to protein ratio and compare to other whey protein drinks.

The downside to whey protein is that it doesn't do you any good unless you drink it immediately before, during, or after a workout-- otherwise you'll just pee it out-- it's a great recovery drink, though and some hardcore drug-free lifters swear by it.

If you want fast protein, your better options are "real" protein like hard boiled eggs you can pop in your mouth.

Not a nutrition expert, but I have had some success in transforming my body into the hunky Adonis-like state I'm in now.

I read early on in my quest in this that you should have one gram of protein per pound of body weight. I have followed that pretty religiously for about two and a half years, and I'm a big believer.

It's hard to get that much protein in a day without whey supplementation. I'm all for it. I probably drink on average 2-3 protein shakes per day. I always do one before and one after each workout. I do a casein shake in the evening a lot. I'll pop whey shake and add a tablespoon of olive oil for a snack or a meal replacement here and there.

I think just about any protein is fine, as long as you're getting a lot of it.

Your middle paragraph seems unlikely. Any source?
