  • Thanksgving day side dishes...

I am looking for healthy and unhealthy alike...

    Recipes if you have them.

We are having 12 people total at the house. One of my buddies kids wont eat anything but hot dogs. I mean every day, so he is out.

    My mother-in-law always makes enchiladas.

I have been killing the stuffing lately.

Lots of celery, onions, garlic sateed in a ton of butter and sausage with a decent stuffing package. Don't stuff it in the turkey, it messes with your turkey cooking.

so many possibilities...the beauty of cooking T-day food is that you can keep the traditional staples but vary the preparation and ingredients and have fun, if you're up for that sort of thing.

quick examples off the top of my head...squeeze of orange, a little zest, a cinnamon stick, sugar into your cranberries and then stir in some pomegranate seeds at the end for an additional layer of flavor.

Mashed potatoes you can do just about anything and it tastes good. Can't go wrong with smashed reds, garlic, shallots, heavy cream, irish cheddar cheese, italian parsley, for example.

Try a cornbread-based stuffing for a change. Throw in some caramelized onions, maybe some andouille sausage if you like a kick. Or fennel instead of celery. Lots of fun herb combos as well.

I say have fun and experiment...but I realize some folks out there like their stuff the same way every year. Nothing wrong with that either, I just don't tell them what I put in their food.
