Oh, and this isn't food related, but may as well keep it in the same thread. I'm thinking of giving out gifts ala Lady Galadriel (in lieu of party favors) and so any great ideas on that front are appreciated as well. :-)

Let's see.... a diploma for 'brains', a plastic heart for 'heart', and a big medal for 'courage'. Oh, wait, that was a different movie.
Ok, how about hairy feet (ask marsupial for ideas), cheap rings (or ring pops), a big stick for a wizard staff, a second-hand bowling ball for a palantir, or plastic orc armor.

You're onto something - make people pick what race they are from and then pass out the applicable costume item: pointy ears for elves...a beard for dwarfs...Originally posted by mtnbiker View PostLet's see.... a diploma for 'brains', a plastic heart for 'heart', and a big medal for 'courage'. (oops, posted as Surfah, he never logs out, grrrr)Originally posted by Soccermom View PostMaybe you need a President's Day weekend getaway to CA. We have a comfy air mattress.
Anyway, like I said any mattress to myself at this point would be the comfiest. I love my husband but I am getting huge. I am due for a LOTR marathon, I think I am gonna try to fit them in before this baby comes. Sounds fun.I am a philosophical Goldilocks, always looking for something neither too big nor too small, neither too hot nor too cold, something jussssst right. You know how President Hinckley said he doesn't worry about those who pray? The same can be said for men who are self-aware enough to know when there's a life to be lived outside of the world of video games. - Anonymous

Fellowship Friday night, Two Towers Saturday night, and Return of the King Sunday night. I'm trying to plan food to go with each night.
For the final night, I thought a feast. . with cornish game hens. nikuman suggested doing the first night ala hobbit feast. When should I do the lembas bread though? I was thinking that would be best for Two Towers.

This sounds like a really fun time. I love the LOTR movies.
A couple of summers ago, I was folding some laundry in the morning. To pass the time, I popped in Fellowship extended DVD. The next thing I knew it was 9 or so hours later and I had watched all 3 DVDs. I did finish folding the laundry so that was cool.Fitter. Happier. More Productive.

Yeah, really. And my 10 year old and almost 13 year old are super excited too! Nerds in embryo they are! Babysitter for the young ones, lest they have orcmares. Ha ha.Originally posted by il Padrino Ute View PostReally?

I can't wait! Gonna be greater than awesome!
I even ordered LOTR extended edition on blu-ray. It could only be more perfect if we had a movie theater sized screen in our house!

So the marathon was a success, in case anyone was wondering.
For the Fellowship, our friends made the main course. . shire food. Steak and ale pie and potatoes. Yum! I made lembas bread and wrapped it up in some mallorum leaves I made (from a website I found) and I also gave each person a "gift" during the Lady Galadriel scene. Yes. Dork status confirmed. But the other dorks in attendance loved it!
For Two Towers, we ate Gollum food, which is sushi of course! We also had man flesh (pulled pork sliders) and I made ice cream cone cupcakes in honor of the Isengard (eating the tower shaped cupcake symbolized its collapsing). Oh, I also took wuap's idea and made Sauron's eyes deviled eggs.
For Return of the King, I made a sort of 7 course meal. Bacon and cheddar stuffed mushrooms as an appetizer, tomato bisque soup, a green salad with cucumber and feta cheese, cornish game hens, mashed potatoes, bread (from our friends. . . ring shaped cheddar biscuits) and for dessert blueberry pie, apple/pear pie, and peach cobbler.
Yummy food, great movies! I don't care if that makes me a dork. It was fun.
