After a giving this a great deal of thought over the last 30 seconds or so, I have decided to bequeath my Traeger to TripletDaddy in the unfortunate event that should occur. My reasoning is threefold. He lives close to me, unlike you he doesn't already own a pellet smoker, and y'all could finally see if he can actually use one instead of talking about it forever.

Okay I have been sick of the damn winds up here blowing stuff around in my yard for a long time now.

Now I am just pissed off.

Thankfully, it appears no worse for wear and I have it firmly ensconced in its new hopefully more secure home.

We got this in the fence too.

That is from the firepit hitting the fence.

About as good as it gets without searching Craigslist. Talk to the sales rep, sometimes they will make you a deal for the demo unit.

And get the Texas. You won't regret the extra space.

+1. What costco are they still at? Gone from Lehi. I need to load up on pellets.

Traeger has a new model out. Traeger Select. Looks nice:

Cost is $100 more than a Texas. Do they ever have these on the road shows?

They did not have that model at the road show. Just the two I mentioned and the tiny one with only 3 heat settings.

I think I'm going to finally join the ranks of true barbequers.

The sales rep at Costco claims that grilling on this is a breeze.

                    Is that true?

My grill is just about shot and I'm more inclined to finally buy a smoker if it really does grill.

Is grilling a reasonable thing to do on this bad boy? Burgers, steaks, veggies, etc?

Get yourself some Grill Grates. They work very well for smokers. http://www.grillgrate.com/grill_grate_products.htm

Last night I was testing the temp on my grill. The grill grates temp was about 100 degrees hotter than the rest of the cooker. Makes for very fast and easy searing and grilling.

Looking at the specs on the Select. Has noticeably less grilling area than the Texas. It does have a larger hopper. Which is more important?

To me grilling space is significantly more important than the hopper size.

I honestly have no idea where that smilie came from. It was not intended, but it is kind of funny. Grilling space is more important to me, but I don't mind a smaller hopper.

CJF, I just found and was reading the other thread.

Sounds like I might be better off getting a unit like you have. More of a do-it-all type thing.

Sounds like the egg or the Memphis are more versatile than the Traeger. Knowing me, I am not the type to want to babysit a lot, so the egg seems to be out. I want the remote thermometers and digital do it yourself settings. I want to put the meat in, let it cook and have people (including myself) heap praise on the end product.

But the price. Oh the price.

However, for a Traeger Texas and a new grill (which I need) I'm not going to be too much more getting a unit like yours.

                                I'm stumped.

I guess I'll hold off getting the Traeger on Monday and do some more research.

If i get one of these units, is there any type of add-on that would allow me to change the temp remotely so that I don't have to manually change the temps on the long cooks?
