You'd have a very hard time duplicating that product outside a commercial bakery. My father-in-law knows the formula, but even he can't make it at home.Originally posted by YardTime View PostDoes anyone have a bread recipe that comes close to Grandma Sycamore's bread?"It's devastating, because we lost to a team that's not even in the Pac-12. I'm sure that's true. Just wondering if someone had a recipe that came close. I have a white bread recipe that turns out very very well.....but it's not Grandma Sycamore's.Originally posted by kccougar View PostYou'd have a very hard time duplicating that product outside a commercial bakery. I have never had this bread but yesterday, baking bread for church, one member said she thought someone had brought bake Grandma Sycamore bread. But if it helps, find Marcy Goldman's cookbook, The Best of Betterbaking.com and find the recipe p. 36, Wondrous Bread. It's easy, very good, makes up large and is very tasty. You will have to decide if it comes close.

Grandma Sycamore Bread Recipe
This may be a bit late, but I figure for others to find, maybe it will help.
Well, I cannot give you the Grandma Sycamore Bread Recipe, but..... in the cookbook, Joy of Cooking there is a recipe called "White Bread Plus."
I have made the most delectable bread with this recipe. Although, the finest batch, which came from this recipe, was when I used my giant bowl and made ten loaves at one time and then cooked it to the ultimate golden color.
Follow instructions except for the following:
Do not over or over rise the dough. (The book gives good instructions before the bread recipes for this with some diagrams. The more you make, the more forgiving it is.)
Do use the freshest yeast and soak it for a few minutes in luke warm water with a touch of sugar. This will make your loaf nearly as soft as Wonder Bread, or so claimed my Grandfather.
After bread is done and still warm, cover the loaf with butter(preferred) or butter flavor Crisco. (not a cheap knock-off brand) Crisco is best if you do not plan on refrigerating it.
My ten loaves lasted only two days (well, a day and a half) with a family of seven. So I have never tested how well it will freeze if you make a batch as big as I did.
If you want anything other than white bread, well ...... I cannot help you there.
Enjoy.......Last edited by QueAquila; 05-19-2012, 08:31 PM.
