  • What the hell's going on with Papaya?

Sometimes I get one and slice it up and it tastes like some kind of foreshadowing of heaven.

Other times I get one and slice it up and it tastes like BYU71's feet (don't ask me how I know).

Can this *&%^ing fruit show a little respect and add some consistency to its game?

I'd blame the picker and not the fruit.

Get the ones from Hawaii, not the ones from South America.

They're impossible to find on the mainland. Or at least on the east coast. All I ever see are the giant ones.

I don't know what the difference is between Hawaiian papayas and S. America ones, but I ate a lot of S. America ones on my mission and never had one I didn't like. I think my favorite fruits are passion fruit and papaya.

I am extremely unpicky (is that a word?) eater. When people ask me what I don't like, the only thing I can come up with is eggplant and papaya. I can tolerate either, but I really just don't care for them.

Papaya smells like a dirty old shoe.

              I haven't found one I like.

I never got into papaya. And it does have a rank stench to it.

Dominican Republic jugos de lechosa are one of my favorite things in the world. I'll post the recipe when I get home and I'm not on the phone.

I had a very different idea of what papaya would taste like based on my ignorant bias. The first time someone cut one up for me in Guate, I was trying to figure out a polite way to inform them that it had gone bad. I can't figure out how people first started eating it.

Green, unripe papaya is good in salads. Very common in Thailand. Ripe papaya is second only to durian fruit in it's foulness - nasty nasty nasty!

If you serve in Costa Rica, you have to learn to eat papaya. I can say, with 700+ of experience, that about 90% of papaya tastes like Ole71's feet, and the other 10% is heaven.

I keep eating it, hoping that I'll get to heaven.

Morir soñando and batidas de níspero are my two Dominican favorites. Lechosa, not as much. Is condensed milk a popular papaya topping outside of the Carribean?
