  • Lion House Rolls

In honor of my kitchenaid mixer coming back from the appliance repair shop ($135), I made a batch of lion house rolls.

When the repairman told me how much to fix it, I thought I'd just buy a new one. But the 450-watt kitchenaid cost $429. And the 800-watt bosch cost the same. So I bit my lip and paid the $135.

I'll be whipping up some honey butter in a bit. Happy thoughts now.

How old is yours? Apparently they aren't made as sturdy as they used to be. Mine is about 25 years old and a hand-me-down from my mom who never used it.

Wish I could enjoy some of those rolls.
What's to explain? It's a bunch of people, most of whom you've never met, who are just as likely to be homicidal maniacs as they are to be normal everyday people, with whom you share the minutiae of your everyday life. It's totally normal, and everyone would understand.

Are you willing to post the recipe?

Great idea, KL. I just finished mixing the dough for mine and they are rising I type this. Do you roll yours like crescent rolls? I'm thinking of doing half of them with butter cinnamon and sugar spread before I roll them.

I'm envious. They used to make them with no plastic.

My planetary doohicky broke. It was plastic. The guy replaced it with a metal planetary. Should last longer.

You can google the Lion House roll recipe. Pretty standard except whoa nellie, a ton of yeast. Those suckers are meant to rise, dad gum it.

Orange--I roll them like crescents but not pie-shaped. So more like regular rolls.

I bought my mixer here. Price has gone up, as I only paid $160. I got the Professional Series in matte black and when it came, it only had one speed: super freaking fast. I called them, they sent another one (but brand new this time!) and a FedEx shipping label. I called for the pickup the next day. It's funny how if someone's mom used a Bosch, then they do as well. Same with KitchenAid.

Very true. Of course, I mostly have a Bosch because that's what my mom bought me as a graduation present. I had been leaning KitchenAid. I guess as long as it does what you need it to, it doesn't really matter which one you use.

A graduation present? Why didn't she just get you a vacuum?

                    Yeah, I know.

But still, a pretty decent thing to acquire not on my dime.

Hell yeah it is. They ain't cheap. Gidget got ours on a wicked sale at Kohl's with some Kohl's bucks she had saved up. I think she ended up paying <$100 out of pocket for it.
