  • I think I'm turning French

At home I've been cooking my steaks less and less. Sear about a minute on each side.

When I go out, I can't get a place to cook me a steak as rare as I like it.

That's just because you know how a steak should be cooked.

Even the hamburgers in France are cooked rare unless you specify otherwise.

They will also be served in pieces and consumed with a knife and fork.

I have a friend who used to liked his steak/burgers/etc. cooked rare. Then he took a public health class.

After seeing the various illnesses, worms, etc. that one can pick up from eating raw meat he went to strictly well done - and nearly swore off hamburger altogether.

I'm not sure if he still feels that way.

I'm more of a "medium" to "medium rare" guy.

I'm a medium rare guy so I don't go too bloody but there are certainly places where I will order my steak medium. If I'm at Bob's in San Francisco I'll got medium rare. If I'm at Outback I go at least Medium.

There's a huge difference between the safety of hamburger cooked rare and steak cooked rare. You can probably guess which is safer, and the one that is, is really quite safe.

Better than turning Japanese. At least turning French does not require a confession to the bishop.

It would if I were Bishop! I can fully understand a red blooded American male enjoying the full creation of manhood, but there is nothing virtuous or praiseworthy about becoming a frenshmon.
