Smackers and open mouth chewers

I'm sure there's a pet peeves thread somewhere covering this but

these people amaze me.

I'm wrapping up my work day at a cafe and a moderately attractive very educated looking Indian woman sat down across from me and ordered some kind of vegetarian sandwich and a salad.

She's chewing every bite like a damn horse complete with that odd horsey side-grinding chew and punctuating some bites with big smacks of her huge lips.

Given the general frustrations of the week I'm not down with this. If I had a feedbag I cld just strap it around her head and hope she got the point.

this was a cardinal sin at the dinner table in my parents' house. My older sister would look at you with her death ray eyes and burn a hole in your forehead if she caught you smacking or chewing w/ your mouth open. My sister had built up a resistance to her weapons and would do it just to spite her. That always ended badly.

Dude! she was in HS, I was in 2nd grade! To this day she can put the fear of God in just about anyone.

This was a cardinal sin at my home as well. For Faith it was just the opposite. Her dad lost his teeth fairly young, and the dentures don't adhere well, so when he eats it is basically like staring into an open garbage disposal, except his mouth is acting like a guitar's sounding board amplifying the sucking sounds of his dentures repeatedly being pulled off and pressed back onto his gums. Her family learned not to talk about it, but they also ended up being a bunch of freaking open-mouth eaters. I point it out whenever she is doing it, and things have gotten better, but it is a source of marital strife, and it drives me nuts that LR occasionally eats this way. I give Faith the devil-eyes whenever he eats open-mouthed.

This is probably one of my biggest pet peeve. I can't handle it. I also can't handle the site of chewed up gum.

I'm with you on this one. I cannot stand the sound of people eating.
