However, I've never had good mandioca in a Brazilian restaurant. It's always way too dry. Our lusophonic cousins have not mastered its cooking the way the caribeños have.

yes, well, on the menu they had the english names in little parentheses for those of us who don't accompany attractive young co-eds to South America every summer.

As far as the dinner goes, like I was telling creek, the yucca was definitely the low point, but since we're not employing HC standards here, the one disappointment was not enough to detract from an otherwise fabulous restaurant experience.

I'll have to agre with Waup on this one. I became a fan of Yucca while on my mission. I especially like it with a big bowl of Caldo de Res.

I also think it tastes like a potato, but not sure about the Elmer's Glue part. To me, it just tastes like a potato. As a disclosure, I've never eaten Elmer's Glue. I have eaten paste, though, but that was years ago. I think I even ate it off a tongue depressor. Paste smelled rad. The taste...not so much. Anyway, I like yucca.

Have you ever had Ecuadorian ceviche with boiled yuca? They use chiles, lime juice, red onions, culantro, and fresh garlic in their ceviche acid, and the yuca just soaks it up. It's the only way I like boiled yuca.

As to the Elmer's Glue, that's the consistency before frying, not the taste or to eat just boiled.
